Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@usermaven/wizard

v0.13.1

Published

Local-first Usermaven installation, instrumentation, and verification CLI.

@usermaven/wizard

Add Usermaven product analytics to your app in minutes. The wizard inspects your project, proposes a reviewable tracking plan, previews every change, applies only what you interactively approve, and verifies that events actually reach your workspace.

npx @usermaven/wizard setup .

Requires Node.js 20+. Supports Next.js (App and Pages Router), React + Vite, React, and Node.js projects with npm, pnpm, yarn, or bun.

What it does

  • Inspect your framework, package manager, and existing analytics — read-only, normalized output with no source snippets or secrets.
  • Plan events and properties from your business context, with every AI-proposed item flagged for review.
  • Preview the exact package installs and file diffs before anything runs.
  • Approve & apply — file changes require a short-lived, single-use, interactive terminal approval bound to your exact project and plan.
  • Verify the applied files and confirm marker-bound events arrive at the collector and your workspace.

Your workspace key never passes through the wizard: generated code reads it from an environment variable (e.g. NEXT_PUBLIC_USERMAVEN_KEY) whose value you set yourself.

Use from a coding agent

The package also ships a local MCP server exposing the same flow as tools for Claude Code, Cursor, and other MCP clients:

npx -y -p @usermaven/wizard usermaven-wizard-mcp --root /absolute/path/to/project

The MCP server cannot create approvals — file changes always come back to a human in a terminal.

Commands

setup (interactive guided flow) · inspect · plan (--baseline for a zero-config page-view plan) · setup-plan · preview · approve · apply · verification-session · verify · checkpoint · resume · next · apply-lock · recover-lock · report · doctor · uninstall · manifest

Run npx @usermaven/wizard --help for flags. The wizard sends no telemetry.

Claude Code skill

The package ships a ready-made skill at skills/usermaven-setup/SKILL.md. Copy it into your project to teach Claude Code the full setup flow:

mkdir -p .claude/skills/usermaven-setup
cp node_modules/@usermaven/wizard/skills/usermaven-setup/SKILL.md \
  .claude/skills/usermaven-setup/
