Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@usetrim/trim

v0.1.19

Published

Trim CLI - local AI context optimization proxy (OpenAI-compatible). Installs the official binary from GitHub Releases.

Readme

@usetrim/trim

Official npm installer for the Trim CLI. On install it downloads the matching binary from GitHub Releases, verifies SHA-256 against checksums.txt, and exposes the trim command.

npm install -g @usetrim/trim
trim version
trim login
trim start
# everyday Always-on (preference + best-effort OS logon; no admin on normal Windows)
trim autostart enable
trim help autostart
trim help daemon

No environment variables required for Trim Cloud. Self-host overrides: see the Trim repo cli/.env.example.

Always-on docs: Always-on with IDE · trim autostart · Installation.

Or without a global install:

npx @usetrim/trim version

How it works

  1. postinstall fetches trim_<os>_<arch>.(tar.gz|zip) for package version vX.Y.Z
  2. Verifies checksums from the same release
  3. Places the binary under vendor/
  4. bin/trim.js execs that binary (self-heals if npm install --ignore-scripts was used)

Same assets as https://use-trim.com/install.sh (default CGO-free build).

Environment

| Variable | Meaning | |----------|---------| | TRIM_GITHUB_REPO | Override repo (owner/name), default usetrim/trim | | TRIM_NPM_TAG | Override release tag (default v + package.json version) | | TRIM_NPM_SKIP_DOWNLOAD=1 | Skip download (packaging/CI only) |

Prefer other installers?

  • curl: curl -fsSL https://use-trim.com/install.sh \| sh
  • Homebrew (when tap is live): brew install usetrim/tap/trim
  • Windows: irm https://use-trim.com/install.ps1 \| iex

Uninstall

Prefer the product uninstall first (stops proxy + OS logon, then you can remove the package):

trim uninstall
npm uninstall -g @usetrim/trim

On Windows, Always-on registers Startup Run → %LOCALAPPDATA%\Trim\bin\trim.exe (a stable copy outside this package). That means a running OS-logon daemon does not lock vendor\trim.exe, so npm uninstall / upgrades no longer hit EPERM on the npm tree.

preuninstall still best-effort runs daemon uninstall + stop and clears any leftover process that might still hold this package’s vendor\trim.exe (legacy installs that ran the daemon from node_modules).
