Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

pi-task-panel

Expanded task panel with phase grouping Tasks manager overlay

Persistent structured task panel above the Pi status line/editor.

Install

Via npm:

pi install npm:@vanillagreen/pi-task-panel

Via vstack:

cargo install --git https://github.com/vanillagreencom/vstack.git vstack
vstack add vanillagreencom/vstack --pi-extension pi-task-panel --harness pi -y

Restart Pi after installation.

Commands

| Command | Action | | --- | --- | | /tasks or /tasks:manage | Open the interactive manager. | | /tasks:add <task> | Add one task; use Phase :: task to assign a phase. | | /tasks:edit | Bulk-edit tasks as plain text. | | /tasks:start <task> | Set a task active. | | /tasks:done <task> | Mark a task completed. | | /tasks drop <task> | Mark a task abandoned. | | /tasks:remove <task> | Remove a task. | | /tasks hide | Hide the panel. | | /tasks show | Show the compact panel. | | /tasks show-all | Show the expanded panel. | | /tasks:clear-completed | Remove completed tasks. | | /tasks:export <path> | Write tasks to a markdown file. | | /tasks:import <path> | Load tasks from a markdown file. |

Arguments support autocomplete, including task names for focused actions.

Manager keys

Select with ↑/↓. Enter/s starts, d marks done, x drops/abandons, r removes, c clears completed tasks, and e opens bulk edit.

/tasks:edit uses plain text (- task name) with optional status suffixes: (active), (done), or (dropped).

Agent tool

The model updates tasks with tasks_write. Tool results render as compact inline status rows by default; set compactToolOutput=false to use Pi's normal padded tool box.

Panel behavior:

  • Ships instructions.md so vstack/npm install adds tasks_write usage rules to the scope's APPEND_SYSTEM.md, removed on uninstall or disable.
  • Keeps one active task highlighted.
  • Automatically advances to the next pending task when the active task is completed/dropped.
  • Hides when all tasks are complete and reappears when pending work is added.
  • Groups tasks by phase in expanded mode.
  • tasks_write runs sequentially so multiple transitions in one assistant response cannot race.
  • When tasks remain, showWorkflowReminder adds hidden task context plus a model-facing reconciliation reminder.

State stores snapshots in tasks_write result details, with project/session custom entries as an extra restore path.

Shortcut

Pi uses Ctrl+T for thinking visibility. This package always registers the alternate shortcut from settings (Alt+T by default), which cycles hidden → show 4 → show all. It registers Ctrl+T only when takeoverCtrlT is enabled in the extension manager and Pi is reloaded. The task manager popup opens with managerShortcut (Alt+Shift+T by default) and the additional F4 shortcut.
