Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v1.0.1

Published

Monaco Editor plugin to add Google Docs-style overlay comments to your Monaco editor. Works with the Velt Collaboration SDK.

Readme

@veltdev/monaco-velt-comments

Add Google Docs-style collaborative comments to your Monaco editor using the Velt Collaboration SDK.

Comment highlights are rendered as view-only overlay elements (<velt-comment-text>) positioned over the commented text — your content is never modified. Each anchor is tracked with an invisible Monaco tracking decoration (which auto-remaps across edits) plus a logical { text, occurrence } source of truth, so highlights stay glued to the text and hide cleanly when scrolled out of Monaco's virtualized viewport.

Install

npm i @veltdev/monaco-velt-comments
npm i monaco-editor # peer dependency (provided by your app; the library uses it for types only)

Usage

Monaco has no global plugin manager, so the library is registered per-editor with the instance returned by monaco.editor.create (or @monaco-editor/react's onMount).

import * as monaco from 'monaco-editor';
import { registerVeltComments, addComment, renderComments } from '@veltdev/monaco-velt-comments';

const editor = monaco.editor.create(el, { value, language: 'typescript' });

// Register once per editor; keep the handle and dispose it on teardown.
const handle = registerVeltComments(editor, { editorId: 'my-doc' });

// Create a comment for the current selection (also wired into the command palette / context menu):
await addComment({ editor, editorId: 'my-doc' });

// Render comment annotations coming from Velt (re-run after any setValue / model swap):
renderComments({ editor, editorId: 'my-doc', commentAnnotations });

// Teardown (e.g. React unmount):
handle.dispose();

API

| Export | Purpose | |---|---| | registerVeltComments(editor, config) | Wire the integration to a Monaco editor instance; returns a VeltCommentsHandle with dispose(). | | addComment({ editor, editorId }) | Create a comment on the current selection. | | renderComments({ editor, editorId, commentAnnotations }) | Render/refresh comment highlights from Velt. | | isVeltAvailable() | Whether the Velt SDK is present on the page. |

Config (MonacoVeltCommentsConfig): editorId? (default 'monaco').
