Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v1.1.1

Imperative React overlays with isolated Cue environments, typed shared components, and one shared backdrop.

Readme

@vlkoss/cue

Imperative React overlays with isolated state and optional shared components and backdrops.

Install

npm i @vlkoss/cue

Create a Cue

Create one Cue instance in a client-side module:

import { createCue } from "@vlkoss/cue";

export const cue = createCue();

Mount its provider once:

<cue.OverlayProvider>{children}</cue.OverlayProvider>

Create overlays from that instance. props contains only values passed to open() or openAsync(). Cue-owned values are in the second callback argument.

const dialog = cue.createOverlay<{ message: string }, boolean>((props, ctx) => (
  <div role="dialog" aria-hidden={!ctx.open}>
    <p>{props.message}</p>
    <button type="button" onClick={() => ctx.close({ result: true })}>
      Confirm
    </button>
  </div>
));
dialog.open({ message: "Continue?" });
const result = await dialog.openAsync({ message: "Continue?" });
dialog.closeAll();

open() returns a close function for one instance. close({ result }) resolves the matching async call. Required props must be passed. If every prop is optional, both methods also accept no argument.

Configure shared UI

Pass a backdrop or any application-defined component map when you need them:

const cue = createCue({
  backdrop: OverlayBackdrop,
  components: {
    wrapper: OverlayWrapper,
    footer: OverlayFooter,
  },
});

Cue exposes the configured components through ctx.components and leaves composition to each overlay. The OverlayProvider portals the shared backdrop and overlay instances to document.body, or to container. The backdrop receives open and close. Choose { strategy: "last" } or { strategy: "all" }.

An overlay definition may pass { backdrop: false } to opt out of the dim, or pass a replacement. createCue({ delay }) sets the close delay. Default 300. open() returns a close that accepts { result, delay } like ctx.close.

Unmounting the provider dismisses pending openAsync() calls as undefined and clears the stack. There is no unmount: false option.

Each call to createCue() creates an isolated store, provider, definitions, and lifecycle state. The package does not export global createOverlay, OverlayProvider, or OverlayManager values.

Types

OverlayContext<C, R> contains open, onOpenChange, close, and the exact component map inferred from createCue({ components }). CloseOptions<R> accepts result and delay. The package also exports OverlayHandle, CueOptions, CueBackdrop, CueBackdropCloseOptions, OverlayDefinitionOptions, and OverlayProviderProps.
