Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@vothlab/mcp-server

v0.1.0

Published

Official MCP server for vothlab.com — developer tools (base64, hash, uuid, JWT decode, YAML/JSON/CSV convert, regex test, diff, and more) callable from any MCP-compatible LLM client.

Readme

@vothlab/mcp-server

Official MCP (Model Context Protocol) server for vothlab.com — exposes vothlab's developer tools so any MCP-compatible LLM client (Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) can call them directly.

Tools

| Tool | Description | |---|---| | base64_encode / base64_decode | Base64 encode/decode with full Unicode support | | url_encode / url_decode | Percent-encoding encode/decode | | jwt_decode | Decode a JWT's header/payload/expiry (no signature verification) | | hash_generate | MD5 / SHA-1 / SHA-256 / SHA-384 / SHA-512 | | uuid_generate | Random UUID v4, batch + case options | | password_generate | Configurable strong password generator | | yaml_to_json / json_to_yaml | Bidirectional YAML ↔ JSON | | json_to_csv / csv_to_json | Bidirectional JSON ↔ CSV | | timestamp_convert | Epoch ↔ human-readable date, either direction, or "now" | | color_convert | HEX ↔ RGB ↔ HSL | | regex_test | Run a regex against text, return matches + capture groups | | text_diff | Line- or word-level diff between two texts |

All tools are free, deterministic, and run locally — no data leaves the machine running the server.

Install & run

Local (stdio), via Claude Code

claude mcp add vothlab -- npx -y @vothlab/mcp-server

Local (stdio), via Claude Desktop / other MCP clients

Add to your client's MCP config:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "vothlab": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@vothlab/mcp-server"]
    }
  }
}

From source

npm install
npm run build
npm start # runs dist/index.js over stdio
npm run inspect # open the MCP Inspector against the built server

Development

npm run dev # run src/index.ts directly with tsx, no build step

Publishing (npm)

npm run build
npm publish --access public

Roadmap

This is the free tier — deterministic, no external API calls. Planned: premium AI-powered tools (natural-language → regex/SQL, debug assistant, etc.) gated behind an API key tied to a vothlab subscription, served from the same MCP endpoint.
