Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Pi extension that keeps the five most recent user messages above the editor

Readme

pi-recent-messages

A lightweight Pi extension that keeps the five most recent user messages above the editor.

Features

  • Shows the latest five user messages from the active session branch.
  • Keeps previews bounded to 160 characters with head-and-tail truncation.
  • Opens a keyboard selector with Ctrl+Shift+R or /recent.
  • Uses ↑ / ↓ and Enter to jump to a rendered message.
  • Includes a permanent ↓ back to bottom action.
  • Marks skill, image-only, and compacted messages as preview-only.
  • Never changes the active session branch.

Install

pi install npm:@wddgda/pi-recent-messages

Run /reload in Pi, then set TUI mode to fullscreen in /settings.

The extension lives at extensions/recent-messages.ts inside the package; Pi's package manager loads it through the pi.extensions manifest in package.json.

Usage

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+R or run /recent.
  2. Press ↑ / ↓ to select a message.
  3. Press Enter to jump, or Esc to close.
  4. The selector starts on ↓ back to bottom, so Enter returns immediately to the latest output.

Resource behavior

The extension does not call a model, access the network, create a persistent cache, write session data, use WAL, or start timers/watchers. After Pi loads the extension, it reads only the in-memory active branch and rendered context.

Compatibility

Tested with Pi 0.84.4 in experimental fullscreen mode. Message jumping uses fullscreen layout internals because Pi does not currently expose a public message-anchor API; future Pi releases may require an adapter update. Regular mode can display the widget, but transcript jumping requires fullscreen.

Test

No install step is needed for local development; Node's built-in TypeScript support runs the tests directly:

node --test test/recent-messages.test.ts
