Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Semantic & operational caching — exact match, embedding similarity, tool result caching, TTL, invalidation

@weaveintel/cache

Don't pay twice for the same answer — cache LLM and tool results by exact key or by how similar the question is.

Why it exists

LLM calls are the slow, expensive part of an app, and users ask the same things over and over — often in slightly different words. "What's your refund policy?" and "How do refunds work?" want the same answer, but a plain key-value cache treats them as strangers because the text doesn't match byte-for-byte. This package caches both ways: an exact-match store for identical inputs, and a semantic store that recognises "close enough" by comparing meaning (embedding similarity), so the second phrasing reuses the first answer.

When to reach for it

Reach for it to cut latency and token spend on repeated or near-repeated work: LLM responses, tool-call results, retrieval outputs. Use the exact store for deterministic keys, the semantic store when paraphrases should hit, and the tiered store to layer a fast in-process L1 over a shared Redis L2. If you need the agent to remember facts across a session (not just avoid recomputation), reach for @weaveintel/memory instead.

How to use it

import { weaveSemanticCache } from '@weaveintel/cache';

const cache = weaveSemanticCache({
  embed: async (text) => myEmbedder(text), // text → vector
  defaultThreshold: 0.92,
});

await cache.store('What is your refund policy?', 'Refunds within 30 days.');

const hit = await cache.find('How do refunds work?');
if (hit) console.log(hit.response, `(matched at ${hit.similarity.toFixed(2)})`);

What's in the box

  • StoresweaveInMemoryCacheStore (LRU/LFU/TinyLFU/GDSF eviction), weaveTieredCacheStore (L1+L2), weaveRedisCacheStore (also at @weaveintel/cache/redis).
  • SemanticweaveSemanticCache, createInMemoryVectorIndex, cosineSimilarity.
  • Keys & policyweaveCacheKeyBuilder, cacheScopeKey, createCachePolicy, shouldBypass, isCacheableTemperature.
  • Prompt cachingplanPromptCacheBreakpoints, estimatePromptTokens (provider-native breakpoints).
  • Invalidation & metricscreateCacheInvalidator, applySemanticInvalidation, createCacheMetrics, estimatePromptCacheSavingsUsd.
  • Tool resultswithToolResultCache, buildToolCacheKey.
  • ResiliencecreateSingleflight (stampede protection), createStampedeCache (SWR / stale-while-revalidate).
