Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Model routing — policy-based routing, health tracking, weighted scoring, explainable decisions

@weaveintel/routing

Picks the right model for each request using policy, live health tracking, and weighted scoring — with an explainable decision.

Why it exists

You often have several models that could answer a request — a cheap fast one, a big careful one, a vision one — and choosing by hand for every call doesn't scale. Think of it like a hospital triage nurse: they read what's in front of them, know which specialists are on shift and which are overloaded, and send you to the right one with a reason. routing is that nurse for models: it reads the request, filters out models that can't do the job, scores the rest on cost and quality, avoids ones that are currently failing, and tells you why it chose what it chose.

When to reach for it

Reach for it when more than one model is a candidate and the choice should be automatic and auditable — cost ceilings, capability/modality constraints, fallback chains, health-aware avoidance of a flaky provider. If you always call the same single model, you don't need a router. The routing contracts (ModelRouter, RoutingPolicy, RoutingDecision) live in @weaveintel/core; this package is the implementation.

How to use it

import { SmartModelRouter, ModelHealthTracker, ModelScorer } from '@weaveintel/routing';

const router = new SmartModelRouter({
  scorer: new ModelScorer(),
  health: new ModelHealthTracker(),
});

const decision = await router.route(
  { taskType: 'summarize', maxCostPer1kTokens: 0.5 },
  ['claude-model', 'fast-cheap-model', 'vision-model'],
);

console.log(decision.selectedModel, decision.reason);

What's in the box

  • RouterSmartModelRouter (the top-level decision maker).
  • HealthModelHealthTracker (records successes/failures to steer away from failing models).
  • ScoringModelScorer weighs cost vs. quality vs. capability.
  • Policy helpersfilterByConstraints, filterByCapability, filterByModality, filterByCostCeiling, roundRobinSelect, fallbackChainCandidates.
  • Task inferenceinferTaskType guesses the task from the request.
  • Capability flagsgetModelCapabilityFlags, getModelContextWindowK, getModelMaxOutputK.
  • Runtime slot & seedscreateRuntimeRoutingAdapter, plus DEFAULT_ROUTING_POLICIES, DEFAULT_MODEL_PRICING, DEFAULT_TASK_TYPES.
