Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Override session provider with expiration, audit logging, and ephemeral storage for Weaver

Readme

@weaver-conf/config-sessions

Override session provider with expiration, audit logging, and ephemeral storage for Weaver.

Installation

pnpm add @weaver-conf/config-sessions

Overview

@weaver-conf/config-sessions provides time-bounded override sessions for the Weaver configuration system. An override session allows temporary configuration changes that automatically expire after a configurable duration. All session lifecycle events (activate, deactivate, extend, expire) can be audited via a callback.

The session controller manages an ephemeral in-memory storage provider that integrates directly into createConfigurationService(). When a session expires, all overrides are automatically cleared. This is the runtime backing for Layers.Ephemeral("session") in a Weaver layer stack.

Usage

Creating and using an override session

import { defineWeaver, Layers, replaceOnly } from "@weaver-conf/config-types";
import { createOverrideSessionProvider } from "@weaver-conf/config-sessions";
import { createConfigurationService } from "@weaver-conf/config-providers";

const weaver = defineWeaver([
  Layers.Static("core"),
  Layers.Static("tenant"),
  Layers.Ephemeral("session", { merge: replaceOnly }),
] as const);

const sessionController = createOverrideSessionProvider({
  layer: "session",
  defaultDurationMs: 4 * 60 * 60 * 1000, // 4 hours
  onAudit: (entry) => console.log(`[audit] ${entry.action}:`, entry.sessionId),
});

const service = await createConfigurationService({
  providers: [coreProvider, tenantProvider],
  weaverConfig: weaver,
  session: sessionController,
});

Session lifecycle

// Activate a session
const session = sessionController.activate({
  reason: "Emergency: investigating production issue",
  durationMs: 2 * 60 * 60 * 1000, // 2 hours
});
// session: { id, activatedAt, expiresAt, isActive, overrides, ... }

// Write overrides through the config service
service.set("app.security.rateLimitRps", 1000, "session");

// Extend the session
sessionController.extend(1 * 60 * 60 * 1000); // +1 hour

// Check session state
sessionController.isActive();   // true
sessionController.getSession(); // current session snapshot

// Manually deactivate (clears all overrides)
const result = sessionController.deactivate();
// { sessionId, deactivatedAt, overridesCleared: 1, auditRecorded: true }

// Sessions also auto-expire after their duration

Cleanup

// Dispose clears timers and deactivates any active session
sessionController.dispose();
