Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Weavori

Zero-config PostgreSQL synthetic data in one command.

Weavori connects to any Postgres database, introspects the schema, and produces production-quality, referentially intact synthetic data — no YAML, no DSL, no per-column mapping. It reads your schema instead of asking you to describe it: foreign keys are resolved by construction, value distributions are sampled from pg_stats, and column-name rules across 25+ domains infer what each column should look like. Hand-written seed scripts and fixture factories rot the moment your schema changes — Weavori regenerates in one command.

npx --yes @weavori/cli generate postgres://user:pass@host:5432/mydb

Output streams to JSON/CSV on stdout or directly into a target database via COPY — with constant-memory usage, so row counts are unlimited.

Requirements

  • Node.js 20+
  • A PostgreSQL database

Install

# Run without installing (first run pulls the correct binary for your platform)
npx --yes @weavori/cli --version

# Or install globally
npm install -g @weavori/cli
weavori version

Weavori ships as a small npm launcher that pulls a platform-specific binary package (@weavori/cli-linux-x64, @weavori/cli-darwin-arm64, etc.) automatically. Works on macOS, Linux, and Windows (x64 + arm64).

Quick Start

# 1. Authenticate (browser-based, one time)
weavori login

# 2. Generate synthetic data for your database
weavori generate postgres://user:pass@host:5432/mydb

# 3. Stream to stdout without touching a target database
weavori generate --input-format ddl --input schema.sql --format json

Weavori shows an interactive generation plan (preview and refine before anything is written). Skip it in CI with --yes.

CLI Commands

| Command | Purpose | |---------|---------| | generate | Synthetic data from a live DB or pasted DDL | | sync | FK-safe COPY of real rows between databases (Pro) | | estimate | Pre-flight storage/time estimation, no generation | | doctor | Diagnose config, PostgreSQL, license, network, extensions | | login / logout | Authenticate / clear credentials | | whoami | Current auth + plan status + monthly usage | | connect | Save a database connection interactively | | subscribe | Open the subscription page in your browser | | cache | Manage cached schema metadata | | mcp | Start the MCP server over stdio | | version | Print version info |

Exit codes: 0 ok · 1 error · 2 auth · 3 database · 4 quota · 5 cancelled · 10 bug.

CI / Automation

export WEAVORI_API_KEY=your-api-key
weavori generate postgres://user:pass@host:5432/mydb --yes --output json
  • API-key auth — non-interactive, no browser login (--api-key flag or WEAVORI_API_KEY env var)
  • Output formats — pretty (default), plain (CI-safe logs), json (machine-readable)
  • Semantic exit codes — scriptable success/failure handling

Licenses are Ed25519-signed and validate entirely offline — generation works in CI and air-gapped environments.

AI Assistants (MCP)

weavori mcp

Exposes five tools over stdio — introspect, estimate, generate, doctor, sync — with identical semantics to the CLI. Works with Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code Continue, and other MCP clients.

Features

  • One command, zero config — connect a DSN, review the plan, confirm
  • Referential integrity by construction — parents generate before children in FK dependency order; integrity is guaranteed, never checked after the fact
  • Data that shapes like production — pg_stats distribution sampling by default, smart random fallback
  • Schema-aware inference — ~230 column-name rules across 25+ domains, enum label sampling, cross-column coherence, CHECK constraint enforcement — so generated rows satisfy your schema's rules on the first run
  • Formula columns — concat, lower, upper, trim, substr, coalesce, length, replace, with nested calls and formula-to-formula references
  • Custom CSV datasets — type-validated and reusable via weavori.yaml when you need specific values, not random ones
  • DDL paste mode — generate from raw CREATE TABLE without a database
  • Private by design — generation runs entirely on your machine; telemetry is anonymous and minimal — never database names, hosts, schemas, SQL, or file contents

Performance: 100K rows across 14 tables in ~12s; 25,000 rows in ~2s; constant-memory streaming (verified to 500K rows with <100 MB heap).

Pricing

  • Permanent Free — 2,000 rows/month, unlimited runs and tables, no expiry, no credit card
  • Pro $15/mo flat — 1M rows/month, unlimited tables, sync included. Cancel anytime — no per-table or credit charges
  • 14-day trial — full Pro, server-side, no payment method required
