Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v1.0.2

Published

Svelte writable store for type-safe storage sync

Readme

@wildneo/svelte-local-stash

Svelte store adapter for @wildneo/local-stash.

Installation

npm install @wildneo/local-stash @wildneo/svelte-local-stash

Peer Dependencies

  • svelte ^4 || ^5
  • @wildneo/local-stash

Usage

Creating a Store

// stores.ts
import { createStash, createItem } from '@wildneo/local-stash';
import { createStore } from '@wildneo/svelte-local-stash';

// Create stash and item
const stash = createStash({ storage: localStorage });

type UserSettings {
  theme: 'light' | 'dark';
  fontSize: number;
}

const settingsItem = createItem<UserSettings>({
  stash,
  key: 'user-settings',
});

// Create a Svelte store for this item
export const settings = createStore(settingsItem);

Using in Components

<script>
  import { settings } from './stores';
</script>

{#if $settings}
  <p>Current theme: {$settings.theme}</p>
  <button on:click={() => settings.set({ ...$settings, theme: 'dark' })}>
    Dark Mode
  </button>
  <button on:click={() => settings.set({ ...$settings, theme: 'light' })}>
    Light Mode
  </button>
{:else}
  <p>No settings saved</p>
{/if}

Functional Updates

Use the update method for functional updates:

<script>
  import { settings } from './stores';

  function increaseFontSize() {
    settings.update((prev) => {
      if (!prev) return { theme: 'light', fontSize: 14 };
      return { ...prev, fontSize: prev.fontSize + 1 };
    });
  }

  function decreaseFontSize() {
    settings.update((prev) => {
      if (!prev) return { theme: 'light', fontSize: 14 };
      return { ...prev, fontSize: Math.max(10, prev.fontSize - 1) };
    });
  }
</script>

<div>
  <span>Font size: {$settings?.fontSize ?? 14}</span>
  <button on:click={decreaseFontSize}>-</button>
  <button on:click={increaseFontSize}>+</button>
</div>

Removing Data

Set value to null to remove the item from storage:

<script>
  import { settings } from './stores';
</script>

<button on:click={() => settings.set(null)}>
  Clear Settings
</button>

Runtime Validation with Zod

Use the select option with zod for runtime type safety:

// stores.ts
import { z } from 'zod';
import { createStash, createItem } from '@wildneo/local-stash';
import { createStore } from '@wildneo/svelte-local-stash';

const UserSettingsSchema = z.object({
  theme: z.enum(['light', 'dark']),
  fontSize: z.number().min(10).max(24),
});

type UserSettings = z.infer<typeof UserSettingsSchema>;

const stash = createStash({ storage: localStorage });

const settingsItem = createItem<UserSettings>({
  stash,
  key: 'user-settings',
  select: (data) => {
    const result = UserSettingsSchema.safeParse(data);
    return result.success ? result.data : { theme: 'light', fontSize: 14 };
  },
});

export const settings = createStore(settingsItem);

Now the store always contains validated data or a safe default value.

API

createStore<TData>(item: StashItem<TData>): Writable<TData | null>

Creates a Svelte writable store for the given StashItem.

Parameters:

  • item - A StashItem instance from @wildneo/local-stash

Returns: A Svelte Writable store with:

  • subscribe(callback) - Subscribe to value changes
  • set(value) - Set a new value (or null to remove)
  • update(updater) - Update value using a function
