Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Monaco Editor for React - use the monaco-editor in any React application without needing to use webpack (or rollup/parcel/etc) configuration files / plugins

Readme

@willbooster/monaco-react

Test semantic-release monthly downloads npm version

React components for Monaco Editor, powered by @willbooster/monaco-loader.

This package is a maintained fork of suren-atoyan/monaco-react published as @willbooster/monaco-react.

Installation

yarn add @willbooster/monaco-react

react and react-dom are peer dependencies. monaco-editor is a direct dependency for Monaco type resolution. This package supports React 19.x, Node.js 24 or newer, and is tested with Next.js 16.

Usage

'use client';

import Editor from '@willbooster/monaco-react';

export default function Page() {
  return <Editor height="90vh" defaultLanguage="typescript" defaultValue="const answer = 42;" />;
}

Editor, DiffEditor, and useMonaco use React client-side hooks. In Next.js App Router projects, import and render them from a Client Component.

API

import Editor, { DiffEditor, loader, useMonaco } from '@willbooster/monaco-react';
  • Editor: Monaco standalone code editor component.
  • DiffEditor: Monaco standalone diff editor component.
  • useMonaco: React hook returning the initialized Monaco instance after hydration. Wrap components that call it in Suspense.
  • loader: the @willbooster/monaco-loader instance used by the components.

Editor

<Editor
  height="90vh"
  defaultLanguage="javascript"
  defaultValue="// hello"
  onMount={(editor, monaco) => {
    editor.focus();
    monaco.editor.setTheme('vs-dark');
  }}
  onChange={(value) => {
    console.log(value);
  }}
/>

DiffEditor

<DiffEditor height="90vh" language="typescript" original="const value = 1;" modified="const value = 2;" />

Loader Configuration

By default Monaco is loaded from the CDN configured by @willbooster/monaco-loader. You can provide your own Monaco instance or loader paths before rendering an editor.

import * as monaco from 'monaco-editor';
import { loader } from '@willbooster/monaco-react';

loader.config({ monaco });

Development

yarn install
yarn check-for-ai
yarn test

yarn test runs unit tests, builds the library, builds the Next.js e2e app, and runs Playwright against it.
