Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

WorldWideView plugin — US broadcast/communications antenna structures (FCC ASR)

@worldwideview/wwv-plugin-broadcast-towers

WorldWideView plugin — US broadcast and communications antenna structures (FCC Antenna Structure Registration).

Usage

This package is part of the WorldWideView plugin ecosystem. It provides the following capabilities:

  • ID: broadcast-towers
  • Category: Infrastructure
  • Format: static

Data Sources

Feature coordinates and metadata come from the FCC Antenna Structure Registration (ASR) public access files (weekly snapshot):

Federal Communications Commission — Antenna Structure Registration (ASR) https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/systems-utilities/antenna-structure-registration Bulk weekly snapshot: https://data.fcc.gov/download/pub/uls/complete/a_tower.zip

US public domain data. The plugin ships a deterministic sample of the registration database: active (granted) registrations with a valid coordinate, sorted by structure height descending and sampled every 5th record to keep the bundle under ~9 MB. Each feature carries name (city, state or ASR-<regnum>), asr (registration number), city, state, and numeric height (overall height above ground in feet, when present).

Installation

Typically installed via the WorldWideView Marketplace or discovered automatically. If installing manually in a Next.js setup:

npm install @worldwideview/wwv-plugin-broadcast-towers

Architecture

This plugin adheres to the WorldWideView standard plugin structure. As a static plugin, it connects to the core Event Bus and renders map capabilities. The GeoJSON FeatureCollection is baked into data/data.json and raw-imported at runtime by an AutoStaticPlugin class (same pattern as wwv-plugin-data-centers).

Data Integrity

Run the fail-closed validator to check the data file:

node scripts/verify-data.mjs

Exits 0 on pass, 1 on any anomaly (FeatureCollection shape, Point geometries, coordinate ranges, required properties, duplicate ids).

To rebuild the data file from the FCC weekly snapshot, extract a_tower.zip into asr_src/ next to this plugin and run:

node scripts/build-data.mjs

Built for WorldWideView.
