Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Unique and Tiny IDs for xGSD

About

At xGSD we generate a lot of IDs, from logging to identification, we need IDs that are consistent, human-readable, and globally unique without fear of collision. We have two primary IDs in use: uniqid and tinyid. Tiny IDs are used in shareable links and are typically less than 8 characters long (with prefix).

Do not use tinyid without collision detection or prevention mechanisms. The short-lived nature of the URLs we generate means collision for us is very unlikely. Check your own application and use case before continuing with tinyid.

Notice

This package is publicly available in compliance with Make Data Mine Again 2025 (our internal policy at Myked and xGSD). We cannot offer support or maintainence outside of our project. Security concerns? Report these to us through our Github. Any security or collision issues/concerns will be addressed within 7 working days (typically sooner).

Installation

Install this library with yarn:

yarn add @xgsd/uniqid

Tests

Commands:

  • test: runs test runner
  • test:cov: runs test runner and generates coverage reports

Usage

Using this library is super simple, simply import the relevant function (uniqid/tinyid) and call it with or without arguments:

// example usage for uniqid()
import { uniqid } from "@xgsd/uniqid";

// ... somewhere in your application
const id = uniqid(); // will generate ID without prefix
const id2 = uniqid("pre"); // generates ID with prefix of "pre"
const id3 = uniqid("pre", "myUserId"); // generate ID with prefix and base
const id4 = uniqid("pre", "myUserId", 8); // generate ID with prefix, base, and custom length.

// example for tinyid()
import { tinyid } from "@xgsd/uniqid";

// ... somewhere in your application
const id = tinyid(); // generate 6 character-long ID without prefix
const id2 = tinyid("pre"); // generates ID with prefix
const id3 = tinyid("pre", generatorFn); // generate tiny ID with custom generator function.

// custom generators
const generatorFn = (prefix?: string, from?: string, length?: number) =>
  "some generated id";
