Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Readme

View annotations inserted into content from xyAnnotations using React components.

In its current form, this package requires react-md. This means there are additional things you will need to import and build in order for this to work properly. You must import: 1) the react-md styles; 2) the Material Icons font; 3) The Roboto font; 4) this package (@xyfir/annotate-react). See the examples for more info.

Components

This package exports an object containing the following React components.

<ViewAnnotations>

This is the main component you should be concerned with, which if used then you can safely ignore the rest because this one will load the others as needed. The only exception to that rule is if your annotation system allows clicks on nested highlights to propagate upward (like with @xyfir/annotate-epubjs) so that the user must choose the item whose annotations they wish to view. If that is the case, you will also need to use <ItemPicker> if not your own custom solution.

Props:

  • annotations: object[] required - An annotation set item's annotations
  • onGoToLink: function required - Called whenever the user clicks a link, either to go to the source of an annotation, or to go to a link within a Document. The function should accept a single parameter that is the link (string) that you should navigate the user to. Pass window.open if you don't need any custom link handling.
  • onClose: function optional - When present, a 'close' action button will be added to the toolbar that will call this function on click.
  • book: { title: string, authors: string } optional - Information for the book being viewed

<ItemPicker>

This component should mainly be used for when a user clicks a higlight in a book that has been highlighted by multipled searches for multiple items. This component allows the user to choose which item to view the annotations for.

  • items: object[] required - The annotation set items to pick from.
  • onPick: function required - A callback function that will receive the item: object that the user picked.

<Document>, <Link>, <Search>, <Image>, <Video>, <Audio>, <Map>

Props:

  • annotation: object required - A single annotation set item annotation (set.items[i].annotations[j]).

<Search>

Props:

  • book: described above

<Document>, <Link>, <Map>

Props:

  • onGoToLink: described above
