Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@yorozu/media-viewer

v1.0.151

Published

framework-agnostic media gallery viewer

Readme

@yorozu/media-viewer

Framework-agnostic media gallery overlay: session, gestures, zoom, ghost flight, and chrome slots. You own chrome DOM; this package paints the stage and drives pointers. A click on the stage fades header, footer, overlay chrome, and filmstrip in 150ms; a second click shows them.

Install

pnpm add @yorozu/media-viewer

Swipe

Unzoomed pointer drag and two-finger trackpad pan (wheel) live-follow while the gesture is in contact. On pointerup, or after 140ms with no wheel events (or the first inertial/momentum tick), the viewer commits: horizontal past 50px goes older/newer; swipe down past 50px closes; under 50px bounces; a later trackpad contact tick before that bounce rests continues from the painted offset. Swipe up does not move the strip. Trackpad leftover ticks after a committed older/newer/close are ignored until cooldown.

Zoom

Chrome reads percentLabel() / scale() and subscribes with onZoomChange. Do not run a perpetual overlay requestAnimationFrame to poll zoom. formatZoomPercent is the percent formatter.

return chromeApi.onZoomChange(() => {
    label.textContent = chromeApi.percentLabel()
})

Idle 100% view does not hold an animation-frame pump. Settle lerps through @yorozu/animations onAnimationFrame and unsubscribes at rest.

Gif

kind: "gif" paints an <img data-yorozu-media-stage> (not <video>). It is not zoom-as-photo: pinch, wheel-zoom, and chrome zoomIn apply only to "image". Swipe still navigates. Reduced motion uses poster when set, otherwise src. Motion on uses src (the browser loops the GIF). When decode is set, the active gif uses the same port path as an image (role: "active"). Neighbor peeks use src / decode like images.

Decode

Omit decode to keep today's <img src> / poster path. Attach does not call the port.

When decode is set, neighbor peeks, the active image, and painted thumbs wait on a budgeted abortable port (createMediaDecodePort) and then applyCanvasImageSource. applyCanvasImageSource adopts a returned HTMLImageElement (moves it in the DOM). Hosts must not reuse one node for active + peek. Video active panes still use <video src>. The package does not decode the full album on open — only the active image, neighbor peeks, and painted thumbs. A failed decode() (rejected or null) clears the pane — no spinner and no broken image. Compat <img src> peeks, active images, and thumbs clear on error the same way.

Default budget: 1 active, 2 peeks (older and newer share), 4 thumbs. The host supplies decode (for example a createBitmapWorkQueue wrapper).

While a swipe is gesturing, settling, or dismissing, attach calls pausePeeksAndThumbs so new peek and thumb jobs do not start. Active-pane decode may continue. After settle, attach resume()s and requests the landed peek neighbors. Zoom drag is not a gesture.

Hosts that warm their own bitmaps should pause() that work while viewer.isGesturing() is true (chrome api.isGesturing() reads the same flag). setGesturing does not notify session subscribe.

Visible

onVisible is a host port. The package does not warm bitmaps and does not call decode from it.

Attach emits { stage, peeks, thumbs } after overlay paint: open, index change, neighbor change, virtualized strip window shift, and swipe settle. Close / overlay teardown emits { stage: "", peeks: [], thumbs: [] }. Session open / next / setNeighbors / setItems do not fire it. Identical structs are coalesced. Hosts can abort warm on the empty set.

  • stage — current item id, or "" if none
  • peeks — older then newer neighbor ids that exist
  • thumbs — painted filmstrip ids (list.viewportIds() when virtualized, all item ids when the strip is on, else [])

Map stage to pri: "visible" and peeks/thumbs to "preload". Abort ids that left the set.

Ghost

createMediaGhost keeps one dest-sized clone (cloneCount() is 1 in flight, else 0). maxClones is accepted and ignored. Attach passes the active pane's [data-yorozu-media-stage] image or canvas (or an img/canvas in that pane) as bitmap so the flight skips the origin URL. Neighbor peeks are not used. Do not cloneNode the live stage.

Filmstrip

filmstrip: false turns the package strip off. true or omit paints today's full in-flow strip. { virtualize: true } windows thumbs with @yorozu/virtual-list using absolute left (not a translateX window).

Current and neighbors share --yorozu-media-filmstrip-thumb-h. Current width follows the item aspect at that height, capped by --yorozu-media-filmstrip-current-w (10rem) and floored at neighbor width. Extra --yorozu-media-filmstrip-current-gap (8px) sits beside current; neighbors use 2px. Album swipe morphs the current thumb and the incoming neighbor with the pager; the strip follows that pair. Overflowing albums inset the strip so first/last rest on the clip center, and fade 2rem at each clip edge (--yorozu-media-filmstrip-clip-fade). Fitting albums keep first/last thumb half-fade. @media (max-width: 40rem) makes the clip 100% wide and sets --yorozu-media-pad-x: 0; stage-gap is kept. Selection motion is 0.2s (nav) / 0.4s (tap) with hero ease.

Virtualize mixed default uses those pitches: the current cell from aspect at thumb-h (capped by --yorozu-media-filmstrip-current-w), neighbors --yorozu-media-filmstrip-thumb-w, plus the current/neighbor gaps (CSS gap does not apply to absolute thumbs). Pass a number for itemSizePx for a uniform pitch, or { neighbor, current } for explicit pitches. itemSizePx stays an explicit-pitch override.

Host either virtualizes the package strip or keeps filmstrip: false and virtualizes its own strip — not both.

filmstripThumbSrc defaults to poster ?? src.
