Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

ZergBoard boards, cards, knowledge, and workspace CLI

Readme

ZergBoard CLI

npm install -g @zergai/zergboard
zergboard --version
zb --help
zb login --api-token-stdin
zb orgs

zergboard and zb run the same native client. Requires Node.js 22 or later on macOS/Linux arm64 or x64. All four binaries are bundled; no install script, Go compiler, or separate binary download is required. Windows is not supported.

Manage boards, cards, repositories, knowledge, evidence, workspace operations, and the terminal UI. Server authorization still applies. Review targets before running modifying commands. See zb help for available commands.

Existing profiles remain in ~/.zergboard/zb.json. Use ZB_CONFIG_PATH to select an isolated configuration and ZB_BASE_URL to select your server. Supply tokens through stdin or existing credential configuration, not shell history.

First-party code remains proprietary (UNLICENSED). Bundled dependencies retain their licenses, included in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt.

Updating the npm CLI

Run zergboard update or zergboard --update to install a newer npm release. zergboard update --check prints JSON without installing. The installed channel is preserved (dev, next, or latest); select a channel explicitly with update --channel dev|next|latest. Updates never downgrade.

Startup checks only notify on stderr when it is a terminal, never prompt or install, and are cached for one hour. CI, redirected stderr, and help/version requests skip checks. Set ZERGAI_NO_UPDATE_CHECK=1 to disable startup checks. Self-installation requires the matching macOS/Linux global npm prefix; local, linked, npx, or other package-manager installs must use their original manager. Existing releases need one ordinary npm upgrade before these commands exist.

See shared updater policy for installation safety, channel switching, and packaging details.
