Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Native CLI for zhconv with OpenCC dicts (adds OpenCC to MediaWiki) — convert Chinese between Trad/Simp and regional variants

@zhconv/cli & @zhconv/cli-opencc

Native CLI for zhconv-rs — convert Chinese text between Traditional, Simplified and regional variants. Powered by MediaWiki and OpenCC rulesets with an Aho-Corasick automaton for single-pass linear-time conversion.

Install / Use

# Default (MediaWiki dicts, smaller binary)
npx @zhconv/cli zh-tw < input.txt

# OpenCC variant (MediaWiki + OpenCC dicts, larger binary)
npx @zhconv/cli-opencc zh-tw < input.txt

Requires Node.js 18+. The first run downloads the matching native binary for your platform (linux x64/arm64, darwin x64/arm64, windows x64/arm64).

Variants

  • @zhconv/cli — uses MediaWiki conversion tables (smaller binary, ~10 MB).
  • @zhconv/cli-opencc — includes BOTH MediaWiki and OpenCC tables (larger binary, ~20 MB). This matches Python's zhconv-rs-opencc package: it adds OpenCC dicts to the default MediaWiki dicts rather than replacing them. Use this if you need OpenCC-specific phrases (e.g., TW colloquialisms).

Usage

zhconv VARIANT [FILE...]
zhconv zh-Hant                 # stdin → stdout
zhconv zh-tw file.txt          # in-place edit
zhconv --rule "X => Y" zh-cn   # custom rule
zhconv --rules_file rules.txt zh-tw *.md
zhconv --wikitext zh-mo article.txt
zhconv --dump-table zh-hk      # print built-in table

Supported variants: zh, zh-Hant, zh-Hans, zh-TW, zh-HK, zh-MO, zh-CN, zh-SG, zh-MY.

How it works

@zhconv/cli is a tiny launcher (Node.js) that resolves a platform-specific @zhconv/cli-<platform> sub-package containing the actual Rust binary, then spawns it. npm's optionalDependencies mechanism auto-installs only the binary for your platform — no download scripts, no curl | bash.

License

GPL-2.0-or-later (same as the underlying Rust crate). Conversion tables sourced from MediaWiki (GPLv2.0+) and OpenCC (Apache-2.0).
