Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Searchables

npm i @zheeno/searchables

This module allows to you to perform deep search on an array of objects for a keyword matching any entry with an indexed property.

Usage

Step 1 - Import the package into your project:

const { Searchables } = require("@zheeno/searchables");

Step 2 - Create an instance of Searchable and pass the array to be searched as the only parameter:

const data = [{...}];
const search = new Searchables(data);

Step 3 - Configure Searchable indexes:

Indexes can be configured by calling the addIndex() method. It takes in a single parameter which can be of type String or Array[String]

search.addIndex(["index_1", "index_2", ..., "index_n"]);

Step 4 - Invoke the find() method :

The find method takes in an argument of type String and returns a promise which resolves an array of matching results

search
  .find("some value") // accepts
  .then((res) => {
    console.log("Found =>", res);
  })
  .catch((error) => console.log("Error =>", error.message));

Example 1:

This is a basic example showing a search performed on the indexes on nodes with the lowest depth in the object tree.

const { Searchables } = require("@zheeno/searchables");

const data = [
  {
    name: "Efezino",
    age: 28
  },
  {
    name: "Adeyemi",
    age: 30
  },
  {
    name: "Jeffery",
    age: 22
  },
  {
    name: "Charles",
    age: 18
  },
  {
    name: "Solomon",
    age: 30
  }
];
const search = new Searchables(data);
search.addIndex(["name", "age"]);

search
  .find("jack 30") // accepts a string seprated by whitespaces or special characters
  .then((res) => {
    console.log("Found =>", res);
  })
  .catch((error) => console.log("Error =>", error.message));

Example 2:

This example shows how to search indexes of an object tree whose node is located at depth N.

const { Searchables } = require("@zheeno/searchables");

const data = [
  {
    name: "Efezino",
    age: 28,
    class: {
      name: "Emerald",
      level: {
        id: "wDex87sm0",
        category:{
          name: "Secondary"
        }
      }
    }
  },
  {
    name: "Adeyemi",
    age: 30,
    class: {
      name: "Pearl",
      level: {
        id: "mM2F0jHah",
        category:{
          name: "Primary"
        }
      }
    }
  },
  {
    name: "Jeffery",
    age: 22,
    class: {
      name: "Silver",
      level: {
        id: "I50SeEDem",
        category:{
          name: "Secondary"
        }
      }
    }
  },
  {
    name: "Charles",
    age: 18,
    class: {
      name: "Gold",
      level: {
        id: "cS34mMab5",
        category:{
          name: "Primary",
        }
      }
    }
  },
  {
    name: "Solomon",
    age: 30,
    class: {
      name: "Gold",
      level: {
        id: "xBjdE332m",
        category:{
          name: "Primary"
        }
      }
    }
  }
];
const search = new Searchables(data);
search.addIndex(["class.name", "class.level.id", "class.level.category.name"]);

search
  .find("xBjdE332m Silver") // accepts a string seprated by whitespaces or special characters
  .then((res) => {
    console.log("Found =>", res);
  })
  .catch((error) => console.log("Error =>", error.message));
