Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

addon-storybook-sync

v0.1.0

Published

Sync Storybook clients over WebSockets

Readme

Storybook Sync

Sync Storybook events with external clients over WebSockets.

Installation

pnpm add --save-dev addon-storybook-sync

Register the addon in .storybook/main.ts:

import type { StorybookConfig } from '@storybook/your-framework';

const config: StorybookConfig = {
  // ...
  addons: [
    {
      name: 'addon-storybook-sync',
      options: {
        host: 'localhost',
        port: 7007,
      },
    },
  ],
};

export default config;

The addon starts a WebSocket server in development mode at ws://localhost:7007.

Options

Pass options with the addon entry in .storybook/main.ts to override the host or port:

const config: StorybookConfig = {
  // ...
  addons: [
    {
      name: 'addon-storybook-sync',
      options: {
        host: '0.0.0.0',
        port: 7008,
      },
    },
  ],
};

Both options are optional. The string shorthand addons: ['addon-storybook-sync'] uses the defaults.

| Option | Type | Default | | ------ | -------- | ------------- | | host | string | 'localhost' | | port | number | 7007 |

Development

Run the example Storybook and the addon build watcher together:

pnpm start

Storybook runs at http://localhost:6006 and loads the locally built preset, whose WebSocket server runs at ws://localhost:7007.

With the example running, send a story selection through the sync server:

pnpm test:sync

The script selects example-button--primary and waits for Storybook to broadcast the translated navigation events. Pass another story ID and optionally docs to test a different selection:

pnpm test:sync example-header--logged-in docs

Set STORYBOOK_SYNC_URL to test a server other than ws://localhost:7007.

Releasing

Add a changeset for every user-facing change:

pnpm changeset

On main, the release workflow maintains a version pull request. Merging that pull request publishes the package to npm through trusted publishing and creates the corresponding GitHub release. Configure npm's trusted publisher for the dannyhw/addon-storybook-sync repository and the release.yml workflow; no npm token is stored in GitHub.
