AgenTab — browser MCP server

Let AI agents drive a real Chrome browser with your logged-in sessions, confined to their own tab group so you can keep working in the same browser at the same time.

Works with Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, and Google Antigravity.

Also published as browse-mcp-server. Both install the same program, and both provide the browse-mcp command.

Install

npm install -g agentab

Quick start

agentab auth      # sign in; stores an API key in ~/.browse-mcp/credentials
agentab setup     # register the MCP server with every coding tool found

setup configures each client the way its own docs prescribe:

Then pair a browser: install the BrowseMCP Chrome extension, open it, and approve the pairing code on your dashboard.

How agents pick a browser

An account can have several browsers connected. list_browsers reports them:

Every browser tool takes an optional browserId. With one browser connected it is optional; with several it is required, and an untargeted call returns the list rather than guessing.

The agent tab group

Everything an agent does happens inside a single Chrome tab group. It can open as many tabs as it likes in that group and cannot read or act on any tab outside it. You keep browsing normally in the same profile — so the agent inherits your logins without seeing the rest of your session.
