Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

AI Tether

Monitor and control your Claude Code sessions from your phone or any browser — end-to-end encrypted, open source.

AI Tether is a small daemon that runs on your Mac and mirrors your Claude Code sessions to a phone app or a browser, so you can watch live transcripts, approve tool permissions, send follow-up prompts, and launch or stop runs while you're away from your desk. It's the same idea as Anthropic's own /remote-control, but end-to-end encrypted and self-hostable.

What it actually does (so you can decide if you want it)

Yes — this is remote-control software, on purpose. Here's exactly what installing it does:

  • Runs a local daemon (tether) that hooks into Claude Code's public extension points (lifecycle hooks, transcripts, the Agent SDK) to track your sessions.
  • Connects outbound to a relay (the free hosted one at relay.ai-tether.com, or your own) which forwards traffic between your Mac and your phone/browser.
  • The relay only ever sees ciphertext. Your Mac and your device agree on an encryption key during pairing (NaCl box: Curve25519 + XSalsa20-Poly1305); the key is bootstrapped through a pairing QR/code and never touches the relay. Your transcripts, prompts, and code are never in plaintext on any server — ours or yours.

That's the whole trust story: powerful, but encrypted end-to-end, open-source, and reviewable. This package is intentionally shipped un-minified — read cli.js before you run it if you like.

Install

npm install -g ai-tether
tether start

tether start registers with the relay, installs the Claude Code hooks + a login service, and prints a pairing QR. Scan it with the AI Tether app, or open app.ai-tether.com and paste the pairing line. Then start a Claude Code session and watch it appear.

Requires Node.js 20+.

Uninstall

tether service uninstall # stop the background service
tether hooks uninstall # remove the Claude Code hooks
npm uninstall -g ai-tether
