Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

aidesk-agent

v0.1.2

Published

AIDesk remote agent - connects to AIDesk server and executes Claude Code tasks

Readme

Quick Start

# Using environment variable (recommended)
AIDESK_TOKEN=your_token npx aidesk-agent --server https://your-server:3939

# Using --token flag (visible in process list)
npx aidesk-agent --server https://your-server:3939 --token your_token

# Local network (HTTP requires --insecure flag)
AIDESK_TOKEN=your_token npx aidesk-agent --server http://192.168.1.5:3939 --insecure

How It Works

  1. AIDesk UI — Create a remote agent and copy the token
  2. Remote machine — Run aidesk-agent with the token
  3. Agent polls for tasks every 3 seconds
  4. Claude Code SDK executes the task locally
  5. Results stream back to AIDesk in real-time
┌─────────────┐         ┌──────────────┐         ┌─────────────┐
│  AIDesk App  │◄──HTTP──│ aidesk-agent │──SDK──►│  Claude API  │
│  (server)    │──task──►│  (remote)    │         │              │
└─────────────┘         └──────────────┘         └─────────────┘

Options

| Flag | Description | Default | |------|-------------|---------| | --server <url> | AIDesk server URL (required) | — | | --token <token> | Agent token (prefer AIDESK_TOKEN env var) | — | | --cwd <path> | Working directory for tasks | Current dir | | --model <model> | Claude model override | Agent config | | --max-turns <n> | Max conversation turns | Agent config | | --poll-interval <s> | Poll interval in seconds | 3 | | --permission-mode <m> | default, acceptEdits, or bypassPermissions | default | | --insecure | Allow plain HTTP connections | false |

Authentication

The agent token is created in the AIDesk UI when you add a remote agent.

Recommended: Use the AIDESK_TOKEN environment variable — CLI arguments are visible to other users via ps.

export AIDESK_TOKEN=your_token
npx aidesk-agent --server https://your-server:3939

Security

  • HTTPS enforced by default (use --insecure to allow HTTP)
  • Token via env var to avoid process list exposure
  • Permission mode defaults to default (explicit opt-in for bypassPermissions)
  • Exponential backoff on connection failures

Requirements

  • Node.js >= 18
  • Claude Code installed and authenticated on the remote machine
  • Network access to AIDesk server (port 3939)
