Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Album Viewer Web Component

The album-viewer web component fetches and displays albums from a specified Bandcamp artist

version

Overview

The album-viewer web component fetches and displays albums from a specified Bandcamp artist. When you pass an artist name to the component, it will display all the musician's albums in a horizontal scrolling view. Please check the demo site below for an example.

Installation

Include the album-viewer component in your HTML file:

<script type="module" src="https://cdn.skypack.dev/album-viewer"></script>

Specifying Versions

You can specify the version of the album-viewer component using the @v^1.0.0 format. This allows you to control which version of the component you are using in your project. No version will default to latest.

Example with Version Specification

<script
  type="module"
  src="https://cdn.skypack.dev/album-viewer@v^1.0.0"
></script>

Replace ^1.0.0 with the desired version number to use a specific version of the component.

Usage

Add the album-viewer component to your HTML and pass the Bandcamp artist name as a property:

 <album-viewer name="artist name"></album-viewer>

Example:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
  <head>
    <meta charset="UTF-8" />
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0" />
    <title>Album Viewer</title>
  </head>
  <body>
    <album-viewer name="artistName"></album-viewer>

    <script type="module" src="https://cdn.skypack.dev/album-viewer"></script>
  </body>
</html>

Properties

  • name: artist to fetch albums for
  • iframeWidth: The width of the iframes displaying the albums. Default is 350px.
  • iframeHeight: The height of the iframes displaying the albums. Default is 442px.
  • iframeBorder: The border style of the iframes displaying the albums. Default is 0.

Example with Name

<album-viewer
  name="onhell"
  iframeWidth="400px"
  iframeHeight="500px"
  iframeBorder="1px solid black"
></album-viewer>

Styling

The component includes default styles for the horizontal scrolling view. You can customize the styles by targeting the album-viewer component and its internal elements.

Default Styles

album-viewer .album-viewer {
  display: flex;
  justify-content: top;
  overflow-x: auto;
}

Customizing Styles

You can override the default styles by adding custom CSS to your project. For example, to change the background color and add padding:

album-viewer .album-viewer {
  background-color: #f0f0f0;
  padding: 10px;
}

Example with Custom Styles

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
  <head>
    <meta charset="UTF-8" />
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0" />
    <title>Album Viewer</title>
    <style>
      album-viewer {
        background-color: #f0f0f0;
        padding: 10px;
      }
    </style>
  </head>
  <body>
    <album-viewer
      name="omboi"
      iframeWidth="400px"
      iframeHeight="500px"
      iframeBorder="1px solid black"
    ></album-viewer>

    <script type="module" src="./src/album-viewer.js"></script>
  </body>
</html>

Conclusion

The album-viewer web component is a simple and effective way to display albums from a Bandcamp artist in a horizontal scrolling view. By passing the artist name as a property, you can easily integrate this component into your web projects.
