Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

AppLedger: an open text record of what an application is for, how it fits together, what it does, and how it changes.

AppLedger

Open text record of what an application is for, how it fits together, what it does, and how it changes.

This repository is the specification and the reference checker. It is also a ForgeTrail project, so the project record is the ledger in appledger/. The normative format is spec/. Those are different things.

| | | | --- | --- | | Brand | AppLedger | | Repository | https://github.com/Catalyst-Forge-LLC/appledger | | npm | appledger. pnpm dlx appledger init, or pnpm add -g appledger | | Domain | https://appledger.dev |

Start a ledger

From the app folder:

pnpm dlx appledger init --name "Workshop notes"
pnpm dlx appledger check

init creates appledger/manifest.yaml, profiles/forgetrail.yaml, an application record, and a session record. A second run writes nothing. An existing manifest, profile, or record is left in place. Init does not infer a purpose from the folder name, and it does not write a label.

check prints ok and the ledger path when it finds no errors. It does not modify files. Errors are schema, predicate, and path problems. Warnings mean a recorded source is missing, its digest no longer matches, a claim's git revision is not HEAD, or a transaction journal is still open. A missing file is not treated as proof that a feature is gone.

The other commands, and what they refuse to do, are on the conformance page (appledger.dev/docs/conformance).

Legacy tracking migration has been retired after the shelf cutover. Historical recovery is retained in Git history.

Work on this repository

These commands run in a checkout of this repository.

pnpm install
pnpm verify
pnpm exec appledger check --root examples/minimal/appledger
pnpm exec appledger check

The curation skill is skills/appledger/SKILL.md. Command status lives in spec/10-tooling-and-automation.md.

Site

The public site is appledger.dev. The docs are appledger.dev/docs. site/ holds those pages, including the synthetic examples/minimal ledger.

Licenses

Specification and schemas are CC0. The checker is MIT. See LICENSE and schemas/LICENSE.md.

ForgeTrail

Decisions and phase state live in the ledger. Phases are on the ForgeTrail docs page (appledger.dev/docs/forgetrail).
