Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Exactly-once claims and worker leases for Appwrite TablesDB

Readme

appwrite-doubletap

Exactly-once claims and expiring worker leases for Appwrite TablesDB.

Use doubletap({ tablesDB, databaseId }), call setup() once, then use once() or lease(). Results from once() must be JSON-serializable and no more than 8192 characters after serialization.

Expiry is based on client clocks, so clock skew matters. State rows accumulate unless finished once() keys are pruned. After pruning, a retry of an old once() key runs again. Keep the replay window much longer than any ttlMs or realistic stall. A stalled once() callback can finish its side effect after another worker takes over, so pass ctx.idempotencyKey to external providers.

Appwrite Function idempotency

Use idempotent() to wrap an Appwrite Function entrypoint. It uses x-idempotency-key by default and replays the original response.

import { idempotent } from 'appwrite-doubletap';

export default idempotent(async ({ req, res, idempotencyKey }) => {
  const order = await createOrder(req.bodyJson, { idempotencyKey });
  return res.json(order);
}, { databaseId: 'main' });

Set up the doubletap table before invoking the Function. Clients can provide the key with functions.createExecution({ ..., headers: { 'x-idempotency-key': orderId } }). Callers without x-appwrite-user-id share the guest scope. Guest idempotency keys must be unguessable random IDs, and guest responses should not contain private data.

Pruning old state

prune() removes only finished once() key chains from the whole table, across all namespaces. Lease chains are kept on purpose because deleting a lease's latest row can let two workers hold it. Crashed pending keys are kept too. olderThanMs is the replay window, so choose a value far longer than any claim TTL or realistic worker stall.

const result = await dt.prune({ olderThanMs: 30 * 24 * 60 * 60 * 1000 });

Agent skill

The package ships an agent skill in the open Agent Skills format. It teaches coding agents to spot check-then-write races in Appwrite code and use doubletap instead. Add it to every coding agent in your project with:
