Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Array Prototype Utils

This package extends the Array prototype with a set of useful functions for working with arrays in JavaScript. The functions include:

  • sum: Sums the values in the array
  • avg: Calculates the average of the values in the array
  • max: Finds the maximum value in the array
  • min: Finds the minimum value in the array
  • isEmpty: Checks if the array is empty
  • reversed: Returns a new array with the elements in reverse order
  • sorted: Returns a new array with the elements sorted
  • shuffled: Returns a new array with the elements shuffled
  • shuffle: Shuffles the elements of the array in place
  • random: Returns a random element from the array

Installation

You can install this package using npm:

npm install array-prototype-utils

Usage

To use the functions provided by this package, simply import the package and use them like so:

import "array-prototype-utils";

const arr = [1, 2, 3, 4];

console.log(arr.sum()); // 10
console.log(arr.avg()); // 2.5
console.log(arr.max()); // 4
console.log(arr.min()); // 1
console.log(arr.isEmpty()); // false

const reversed = arr.reversed();
console.log(reversed); // [4, 3, 2, 1]
console.log(reversed === arr); // false
console.log(reversed[0] === arr[0]); // false
console.log(reversed[1] === arr[1]); // false
console.log(reversed[2] === arr[2]); // false
console.log(reversed[3] === arr[3]); // false

const sorted = arr.sorted();
console.log(sorted); // [1, 2, 3, 4]
console.log(sorted === arr); // false
console.log(sorted[0] === arr[0]); // false
console.log(sorted[1] === arr[1]); // false
console.log(sorted[2] === arr[2]); // false
console.log(sorted[3] === arr[3]); // false

console.log(arr.random()); // 1, 2, 3 or 4

const shuffled = arr.shuffled();
console.log(shuffled); // [1, 2, 3, 4] or [1, 3, 2, 4] or [2, 1, 3, 4] or [2, 3, 1, 4] or [3, 1, 2, 4] or [3, 2, 1, 4]

const shuffled2 = arr.shuffle();
console.log(shuffled2 === arr); // true

Note that this package modifies the Array prototype, so the functions are available on all arrays in your codebase after the package is imported.
