Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

AppVersion.info view agent module for Electron.js

You have to have installed Electron.js to use this module. Electron.js website - https://www.electronjs.org/

Installation

To install module use npm:

npm i avi-window

Usage

New instance of module creates AppVersion.info window. In constructor you need to pass object with parameters:

  • userDataPath {String}. By default you can get this path by method 'getPath()' from 'app' instance (see example)
  • channelId {String}
  • releaseVersion {String}
  • force {Boolean}

More info about these parameters - https://appversion.info/views/integration/running-view-agent.html.

You can add event listener to know when AVI window is closed (see example).

Example:

const { app } = require('electron')
const AVIWindow = require('avi-window')

let aviWindow = new AVIWindow({
  userDataPath: app.getPath('userData'),
  channelId: 'sAJ2_QeCP',
  releaseVersion: '1',
  force: true
})
aviWindow.on('closed', () => {
  aviWindow = null
})

// AppVersion.info window will be shown if the below conditions are met:
// - channel with id = channel_id exists,
// - banner with id = app_version exists in this channel,
// - this is not the first run of AppVersionInfo.exe,
// - previous run was with a diffrent app_version number.
// So basically, for the first time, you shouldn't expect anything to happen, and it's o.k.
// If you want to see something:
// - run your code with_appversion = "1",
// - prepare banner for release version = 2,
// - run your code with_appversion = "2".

On first run of module it tries to open welcome banner. Welcome banner is a banner which has '0' release version. If banner with '0' release version does not exists nothing will happen on first run of AVIWindow.

AVIWindow creates folder in your user data folder with name: 'AVI_' + channelId. This folder stores configuration file to provide appversion.info user experience logic. You can uninstall this folder with following static method:

AVIWindow.uninstall({
  userDataPath: app.getPath('userData'),
  channelId: 'sAJ2_QeCP'
})
