Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

babel-plugin-transform-import-css-l7

Readme

So Alpha. Current version is unstable 1.0.0-alpha with babel@7 and postcss@7 support! Use stable 0.x.x version for babel@6 and postcss@6

Injects class map imported from css-modules into js.

Plugin respects webpack css-modules API and postcss config.

Requirements

  • babel == 7, postcss == 7, node >= 8. Note. For babel@6 use previous version of plugin: 0.x.x
  • babel and postcss configs for best results

Installation & configuration

npm add -SD babel-plugin-transform-import-css

.babelrc example:

{
  "sourceMaps": "inline",
  "presets": [
    "@babel/env",
    "react"
  ],
  "plugins": [
    ["transform-import-css", {
      "generateScopedName": "lib-[name]-[local]-[hash:base64:4]"
    }]
  ]
}

Every js file that has a statement such as:

import classes from './Component.css'
// ... some code

will be transpiled to:

var classes = {
    root: 'lib-foo-root-SFs0',
    // ... some classes ...
}
require('load-styles')('.root{color:red}; ...some css...') // puts styles into the head
// ... some code

Api

  • generateScopedName — css-modules scope template. Default: [name]__[local]___[hash:base64:5]
  • configPath — postcss config path. Default: auto detect
  • ext — postcss files' extension. Typical use: ext: '.pcss'. Default: '.css'

Note. Plugin rely on some @babel/ peerDependencies, that are typically included in your project by @babel/core self.

Use Cases

Bundling the css with npm packed library of js/react components. It is good for portability.

TODO

  • [x] babel@7
  • [x] configPath and ext options
  • [ ] Compatibility with mini-css-extract-plugin and extract-text-webpack-plugin. babel-plugin-transform-import-css should skip require('load-styles')(css) inserting in that cases.
  • [ ] Support postcss configs in package.json
  • [ ] More flexible postcss config loader. (asynchronous postcss-load-config lib can't be used due to synchronous nature of the babel).
