Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

basic-dom

v0.1.3

Published

Simple DOM query, manipulation & creation in minimal code, using standard ES5 constructs

Readme

basic-dom

A minimal JS view library for dynamic pages

Where tinyDOM aimed to be a slim version of jQuery, basic-dom is targetting the JS view library market. basic-dom lets you safely create dynamic html content from arbitrary input in a similar way to React and Vue, but does so in a much more straight forward way

Installation

bower install basic-dom

Usage

Add the following into your html page to add a button that logs 'hello' when pressed

<script src="path/to/bower_components/basic-dom/basicdom.js"></script>
<script>
  var myButton = el(
    'button',
    { onClick: function(){ console.log('hello') } },
    ['Click me!']
  )
  document.body.appendChild(foo)
</script>

Interface

basic-dom adds the following to the window object:

  • $(selector: string): HTMLElement
    • Grabs a single element that matches the given selector
  • $$(selector: string): Array<HTMLElement>
    • Grabs an array of HTML elements based on the given selector
  • el(tagName: string, attributes: ?object, children?: Array<string | HTMLElement>): HTMLElement
    • Construct the element specified by tagName
    • Attach any attributes passed to attributes
      • camelCased values are turned into kebab-cased values (caveat: myAttr becomes my-attr but myATTR stays as myATTR)
      • any on{event} values are registered as event listeners for {event}
      • passing a style property will merge the given styles into the element#style property instead of setting the style attribute
    • Append all children passed to children either directly, in the case of HTMLElements or after turning them into TextNodes in the case of strings
  • bdom
    • An object containing the following utility methods included with basic-dom
  • bdom#resolve(el: string | HTMLElement): HTMLElement
    • Resolve el to an element using $ if it is a string
  • bdom#empty(el: string | HTMLElement): void
    • resolves el
    • removes all child elements from el
  • bdom#fill(el: string | HTMLElement, children: Array<string | HTMLElement>)
    • resolves el
    • Empties el
    • Appends all elements of children to el, either as is (HTMLElement) or as a TextNode (string)
