Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Latency breakdown, response times and page audits - no API key.

Tools

  • response_times — Sample a URL several times and report min, median, average, max and jitter, so you can tell steady from flaky.
  • latency_breakdown — Split one request into DNS, TCP connect, TLS handshake and time-to-headers, and say which stage is slowest.
  • content_check — Audit a page's title, meta description, canonical, lang, viewport, headings, image alt text and word count.
  • redirect_chain — Every hop from the URL you give to the URL that finally answers, with timing and loop detection.
  • headers_report — Grouped response headers — origin, caching and CDN, compression, security and cookies — with what looks wrong.
  • endpoint_summary — One call for a whole endpoint: reachable or not, latency stages, TLS certificate age and DNS address.
  • certificate_info — Read the TLS certificate a host presents: subject, issuer, validity and days left, chain length, SAN list and whether Node trusts it.
  • dns_records — Look up a domain's A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS and CAA records at once and report its SPF and DMARC status.
  • port_check — Test whether TCP ports accept a connection, with the time each port took and the reason a port is closed.
  • tls_versions — Check whether a host still negotiates TLS 1.2 and TLS 1.3, and which protocol and cipher it picks for each.

Setup

No setup. Requests are measured live from the server itself, so there is no key or account.

Premium tools

These tools need a license key:

  • domain_registration
  • crawl_rules

Buy a key at https://mcp-marketplace.io/server/io-github-mrfentmen-betterstack-mcp and set it in your MCP client config:

"env": { "MCP_LICENSE_KEY": "mcp_live_..." }

The key is checked against MCP Marketplace, cached for 24 hours, and keeps working offline once one check has succeeded. Every other tool on this server stays free.
