Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

bizagent

A lightweight, extensible Node.js CLI agent framework.

bizagent is a small, dependency-free command-line agent that can be used as a starting point for your own assistants. It ships with an interactive REPL and a single-shot mode, and works either with an OpenAI-compatible chat completions API or in a fully offline "skeleton" mode when no API key is configured.

Install

npm install -g bizagent

After installation, run bizagent directly from your terminal.

Usage

# interactive session
bizagent

# single prompt, then exit
bizagent "What is the capital of France?"

# override model / system prompt / api base
bizagent --model gpt-4o-mini --system "You are a pirate" "Ahoy"

# help & version
bizagent --help
bizagent --version

REPL commands

| Command | Description | | --------- | --------------------------------- | | /exit | Quit the session | | /quit | Quit the session | | /reset | Clear conversation history |

Configuration

All configuration is via environment variables (no secrets are stored in the repo). Copy .env.example to .env and fill in your values, or export them in your shell.

| Variable | Default | Description | | -------------------- | -------------------------------- | ------------------------------------ | | BIZAGENT_API_KEY | (none) | API key for the model provider | | BIZAGENT_MODEL | gpt-4o-mini | Model name | | BIZAGENT_API_BASE | https://api.openai.com/v1 | OpenAI-compatible API base URL |

When BIZAGENT_API_KEY is unset, bizagent runs in offline mode and returns deterministic local responses, which is handy for development and testing.

Programmatic API

import { createAgent } from "@bizlin/bizagent";

const agent = createAgent({ model: "gpt-4o-mini" });
const reply = await agent.run("Hello!");
console.log(reply);

Development

npm test # run the test suite (node:test)
npm start # run the CLI locally

Publishing

Releases are published to npm automatically by GitHub Actions when a new tag v* is pushed. The workflow uses the NPM_TOKEN repository secret for authentication. See .github/workflows/publish.yml.
