Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

MCP server for controlling BlueMap Android mock location app via ADB (debug builds)

Readme

bluemap-mcp

MCP server for BlueMap, an Android mock-location app. Lets an AI assistant set the device's location, build and replay routes, and inspect what the app is doing — in natural language.

Your MCP client ↔ bluemap-mcp ↔ adb ↔ BlueMap on your device

Requirements

  • Node.js 18+ — the server runs via npx, no install step
  • adb (Android SDK Platform-Tools) on your PATH — check with adb devices
  • BlueMap 1.11.2 or later, installed from Google Play
  • USB debugging enabled on the device, and the device authorised for adb
  • BlueMap selected as the mock location app in Developer options

Earlier BlueMap versions will not respond: remote control shipped in release builds for the first time in 1.11.2. Before that the app half existed only in developer builds that were never distributed, so this package had nothing to talk to.

Setup

Add the server to your MCP client's config and restart it. For Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and Windsurf:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "bluemap": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "bluemap-mcp"]
    }
  }
}

Then ask your assistant something like "put my phone at Gangneung station" or "replay my commute track at 40 km/h".

With more than one device connected, use list_devices and select_devices first — every other tool acts on the selection, and can drive several devices at once.

How it reaches the app

Commands go over adb shell content call to a ContentProvider inside BlueMap, which serves only the shell user (uid 2000) and root. Any other caller gets nothing back.

That check is why this can ship in a release build at all. It also means the server grants no capability beyond what adb already has: anyone able to reach this interface can already install apps and grant permissions on the device, which is strictly more than these tools offer.

Troubleshooting

"BlueMap is not installed on this device, or is a build without remote control" — install BlueMap 1.11.2 or later from Google Play. If it is installed, confirm the right device is selected with list_devices.

"Mock provider not accessible. Check developer options." — BlueMap is installed but is not the selected mock location app. Developer options → Select mock location app → BlueMap.

"adb not found" — install platform-tools and put them on PATH. macOS: brew install android-platform-tools.

"No devices connected" — check adb devices; accept the USB debugging prompt on the phone if it is waiting.

Licence

See the BlueMap project. Issues and feature requests: through the app's Settings → Feedback.
