Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

MCP server for Bulk SEO Meta Editor for AI Agents — lets Claude Code / Claude Desktop bulk-update Yoast or Rank Math SEO meta tags on WordPress sites, including taxonomy term archives (categories, tags, custom taxonomies), CPT archive pages, and global SE

Readme

bulk-seo-meta-editor-mcp

MCP (Model Context Protocol) server companion for the Bulk SEO Meta Editor for AI Agents WordPress plugin. Lets Claude Code / Claude Desktop read and bulk-update Yoast SEO or Rank Math meta tags on WordPress sites with a single tool call.

Requires the WordPress plugin to be installed and activated on the target site. Get it from the WordPress.org Plugin Directory (after approval) or GitHub.

Tools exposed

| Tool | What it does | |---|---| | status | Detects which SEO plugin is active (Yoast / Rank Math) and lists field aliases | | get_post_meta | Read SEO meta for a single post or page | | set_post_meta | Update SEO meta on a single post | | bulk_update | Update SEO meta on up to 100 posts in one call | | list_posts | Search/list posts to find IDs | | export_csv | Export all posts' SEO meta as CSV | | import_csv | Apply CSV updates (round-trips with export_csv) |

Install

Claude Code

claude mcp add bulk-seo-meta-editor \
  --env WP_BASE_URL=https://your-site.com \
  --env WP_USER=your-username \
  --env WP_APP_PASS='xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx' \
  -- npx -y bulk-seo-meta-editor-mcp

Claude Desktop (claude_desktop_config.json)

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "bulk-seo-meta-editor": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "bulk-seo-meta-editor-mcp"],
      "env": {
        "WP_BASE_URL": "https://your-site.com",
        "WP_USER": "your-username",
        "WP_APP_PASS": "xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx"
      }
    }
  }
}

Authentication

Uses standard WordPress Application Passwords. HTTPS required in production.

  1. WP admin → Users → Your Profile → Application Passwords
  2. Add new (e.g. name it "Claude Code")
  3. Copy the 24-character password and put it in WP_APP_PASS

Endpoint conventions

The server uses the universal ?rest_route=/X URL form, so it works on every WordPress install regardless of permalink structure or web server (no dependence on htaccess / nginx rewrites).

Troubleshooting

WP 403 errors despite correct credentials

Some hosts (Apache mod_security, Wordfence, Solid Security, Cloudflare WAF) reject HTTP-library User-Agents before the request reaches WordPress. From v1.4.2 the server sends a browser-shaped User-Agent automatically. If a host has a stricter rule, override it:

claude mcp add bulk-seo-meta-editor \
  --env WP_BASE_URL=https://your-site.com \
  --env WP_USER=your-username \
  --env WP_APP_PASS='xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx' \
  --env MCP_USER_AGENT='Your custom UA string' \
  -- npx -y bulk-seo-meta-editor-mcp

WP 401 for every call

Application Password is wrong/revoked, or the WordPress site has Application Passwords disabled. Test with curl first:

curl -u 'user:app pass' https://your-site.com/wp-json/seo-meta-bridge/v1/status

If curl returns 200 but the MCP server still fails, your credentials are reaching the site but the env vars passed to MCP don't match — re-check WP_USER and WP_APP_PASS.
