Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Collection of web components for a card game

Card Tricks

Card Tricks Example application

Defines web components for use in card games. Does not include actual card graphics or full application. See the examples to see how an application could use various components.

TODO: Create animated GIF of dogs playing cards or something

Rules to the tricks

  • No frameworks
  • Web Components
  • Only modern browsers
  • Well documented and tested code with examples that showcase just the web component

I am also focusing on creating web components for as many things that I can to better isolate each functionality. At the moment of this writing I have table, pile, and card components that are pretty basic. I'm also using template to define the card graphics on the page. I use the shadow DOM CSS to isolate the styles to each component, but also make some things styleable by inheriting styles from the page. Mostly learning and applying as I go.

I plan to just use node-tap for testing and not try to mock any browser internals. There is a lot of boilerplate with web components and I don't want to get slowed down with trying for 100% coverage by mocking all of that, too.

How to Play

This is just a library of web components that may be useful for creating card games. Each component is sorta developed in isoloation and contains an example of how to use it in a web application. Each component is in its own directory within the src directory.

Grok the src/ ... glance over the package.json, Makefile, rollup.config.js and then npm install. Next check the examples locally in your browser.

Objective of the game? Spend countless hours developing something that will hopefully be awesome when it's done. Contributors are welcome.

Develop It

Watch for changes and build it.

npm run dev

Somewhat standard on running tests, except uses make clean && make --jobs test and builds temporary *.tmp.js files.

npm run test
