Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Census MCP

Read US Census population data for the nation, states, and counties. Requires a free Census API key.

This file is self contained. It reads public data only and never writes to the machine. All output is bounded and honest about what could not be fetched.

  • get_nation_population National population totals.

  • get_state_population Population by state FIPS code.

  • get_county_population County populations within a state.

  • get_median_income

  • get_poverty_count

  • get_bachelor_count

  • get_housing_units

  • get_unemployed_count

  • get_median_age

  • get_hispanic_count

Usage

npm install
npm run build
node dist/index.js

Set the CENSUS_API_KEY environment variable to your free key from the Census Bureau. Without it the server reports an honest error.
