Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Chat Engine Event Status Plugin

Adds the ability of tracking each message into different stages: (sent, delivery and read)

Quick Start

  1. Have ChatEngine instantiated and connected, and have a channel you want to count unread messages on
const ChatEngine = ChatEngineCore.create({
    publishKey: 'pub-key-here',
    subscribeKey: 'sub-key-here',
}, {
    endpoint: 'http://chatengine:server/',
    globalChannel: 'global-channel-name'
});

ChatEngine.connect('Username');
ChatEngine.on('$.ready', () => { ... });
  1. Attach this plugin to the chat you want to
const status = require('chat-engine-event-status');

chat.plugin(status({ event: 'message' }));
  1. How to mark the messages as sent
let sent = [];

//gets the tracking id of the new message sent

chat.on('$.eventStatus.sent', (payload) => {
    const { data } = payload;
    sent.push(data.id);
});
//synchronizes the message received into the stream with the tracking id got from event $.eventStatus.sent

let messages = [];

chat.on('message', (payload) => {
    const index = this.sent.indexOf(payload.eventStatus.id);

    if (index >= 0) {
        payload.eventStatus.sent = true;
        sent.splice(index, 1);
    }

    messages.push(payload);
});

In this way you can display into the screen that the message was sent using a check mark or whatever UI strategy.

  1. How to identify and mark a message as delivery
chat.on('$.eventStatus.delivered', (payload) => {
    let message = messages.find(w => w.eventStatus.id === payload.data.id);

    if (message) {
        message.eventStatus.delivery = true;
    }
});
  1. How to mark a message as read

chat.eventStatus.read function receives as payload the message which has been read from the other side, in this point you can use different strategies to mark the message as read e.g. using the scroll down or when the list is focused.

chat.on('message', (payload) => {
    chat.eventStatus.read(payload);
});
  1. How to know which ones and who have read the messages
chat.on('$.eventStatus.read', (payload) => {
    let message = this.messages.find(w => w.eventStatus.id === payload.data.id);

    if (message) {
        message.eventStatus.read = true;
    }
});

Every payload returns field sender with which you can retrieve who user has notified the delivery or reading.
