Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

A versatile and robust image component for React, designed to enhance image handling in your applications. Offers built-in lazy loading, customizable fallback images, and improved accessibility, ensuring a seamless image experience with minimal configuration. Handles missing or broken image sources gracefully, replacing them with a user-defined fallback or a default placeholder. Simplifies image optimization and improves overall website performance.

Usage

Import the RobustImage component into your React application:

import React from 'react';
import RobustImage from 'chrobustimage';

function MyComponent() {
  return (
    <div>
      <RobustImage
        src="https://example.com/my-image.jpg"
        alt="A descriptive alt text"
        fallbackSrc="/images/fallback-image.png" // Optional: Custom fallback image
        className="my-image" // Optional: Custom CSS class
        style={{ width: '300px' }}      // Optional: Inline styles
        placeholder={<p>Loading...</p>}  // Optional: Placeholder content
      />
    </div>
  );
}

export default MyComponent;

Or you can just write the component without any props and it will work

import React from 'react';
import RobustImage from 'chrobustimage';

function MyComponent() {
  return (
    <div>
      <RobustImage/>
    </div>
  );
}
export default MyComponent;

Props

| Prop | Type | Default | Description | | ----------- | ------ | ------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | src | string | required| The URL of the image. | | alt | string | "Image"| Alternative text for the image (for accessibility). | | fallbackSrc | string | none | URL of the image to display if the main src image fails to load. | | lazy | boolean| true | Enables or disables lazy loading. | | className | string | "" | CSS class name to apply to the image. | | style | object | {} | Inline styles to apply to the image. | | placeholder | React.ReactNode | null | A React node (e.g., a component, text, or an image) to display while the image is loading.|

Fallback Image

If the src image fails to load and no fallbackSrc is provided, the component will display a default placeholder image.

Placeholder Content

The placeholder prop allows you to display custom content while the image is loading. This can be a loading spinner, a blurred version of the image, or any other React node.

Lazy Loading

Lazy loading is enabled by default, which improves performance by only loading images when they are visible in the viewport. You can disable lazy loading by setting the lazy prop to false.

Customization

You can customize the appearance of the image using CSS classes and inline styles. The className prop allows you to apply CSS rules defined in your stylesheets, while the style prop allows you to set inline styles directly.
