Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

ciphertool-cli

v1.0.1

Published

A fast, multi-algorithm cipher CLI tool (Atbash, Caesar, Scytale, Vigenere, Morse, Binary)

Readme

ciphertool-cli

A fast, lightweight, multi-algorithm cipher CLI tool written in Node.js. It supports 6 different ciphers and integrates perfectly into shell pipelines.

Installation

Install globally via npm:

npm install -g ciphertool-cli

(Note: If you encounter permission errors, you may need to run with sudo or configure npm to use a different directory.)

Usage

The global command is ciphertool-cli.

ciphertool-cli [options]

Options

  • -h, --help : Show help message
  • -m, --mode <mode> : Mode: encrypt or decrypt (default: encrypt)
  • -c, --cipher <type> : Cipher type: atbash, caesar, scytale, vigenere, morse, binary (default: atbash)
  • -k, --key <key> : Key/parameter for the cipher (e.g., shift for Caesar, keyword for Vigenere)
  • -i, --input <text> : Input text to process
  • -f, --file <path> : Treat input as a file path and read from it

Piping (Standard Input)

If you omit -i and -f, ciphertool-cli will automatically read from standard input (stdin), making it perfect for chaining commands:

echo "hello world" | ciphertool-cli -c caesar -k 3

Examples

1. Caesar Cipher (Shift by 5)

ciphertool-cli -c caesar -m encrypt -k 5 -i "hello"
# Output: mjqqt

2. Vigenère Cipher (Keyword: "secret")

ciphertool-cli -c vigenere -m encrypt -k "secret" -i "supersecretmessage"
# Output: klyvtkwvimgqwweiy

3. Atbash Cipher via File

ciphertool-cli -c atbash -m decrypt -f ./my_secret_file.txt

4. Morse Code Pipeline

echo "sos" | ciphertool-cli -c morse -m encrypt
# Output: ... --- ...

Supported Ciphers

  • Atbash: Reverses the alphabet (A ↔ Z, B ↔ Y).
  • Caesar: Shifts the alphabet by a given integer -k.
  • Scytale: Transposes characters based on a diameter -k.
  • Vigenère: Shifts characters using a keyword -k.
  • Morse: Standard Morse code (dots and dashes).
  • Binary: Converts text to 8-bit binary strings.
