Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

// Optional : Select the packages you want to include
citrine-box-sizing()
citrine-reset()
citrine-presets()

// Optional : Or simply include all of them
citrine()

p
  font-size remify(16) // converts pixel units to rem
  margin-bottom rhythm(1, 16) // add a margin equal to 1 empty line

h1
  font-size remify(ms(4, golden))
  margin-bottom rhythm(1, ms(4, golden))
  margin-left rhythm(1, ms(4, golden))

Available options

citrine-base-font-size : Set the base font-size for rem conversion

citrine-base-line-height : Set the base line-height (you can fine tune it depending on the font you use, the recommended values are between 1.4 and 1.6)

citrine-ratio : Set the modular scale used to calculate the presets, for a complete list, refer to the modular scales section.

citrine-definition-list-style : Definition lists should be inline or indented ? It's indented by default, but you have the ability to change it, just in case.

citrine-blockquote-border-color : Set the border color for quote blocks.

Available mixins

citrine-box-sizing() : Set box-sizing to border-box by default.

citrine-reset() : Include Eric Meyer's reset.

citrine-preset() : A set of defaults to help you out.

citrine() : Include all the above mixins.

ms(number[, ratio]) : x value (up or down) the modular scale (or 0 to get the base font size).

remify(font_size) : Convert the pixel values to rem.

rhythm(number_of_lines, font_size[, correction]) : For use in margin and paddings, it adds empty lines relative to the chosen font-size, with the ability to use a correction in pixels to help you center the elements. (For example if you have a Header with an inset box shadow of 4px, set the correction to 4).
