Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Eliminate verbose filler language from Claude Code responses by injecting terse-response rules into CLAUDE.md

Readme

claude-crisp

Stop Claude Code from narrating its every thought.

npx claude-crisp install

That's it. Restart Claude Code and enjoy responses that start with the answer.

The problem

You ask Claude to fix a bug. It says:

"Certainly! I'd be happy to help with that. Let me start by analyzing the codebase to understand the structure. I'll begin by examining the relevant files, and then I'll carefully consider the best approach to solving this issue. Let me take a look..."

Then it fixes the bug in two lines.

What this does

Injects a terse-response ruleset into ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md — the global instruction file Claude Code reads at the start of every session. Claude then follows these rules across all your projects without any per-project setup.

Rules enforced:

  • No opener filler: "Certainly!", "Of course!", "Sure!", "Absolutely!", "Happy to help!"
  • No pre-action narration: "Let me think...", "I'll start by...", "Let me take a look..."
  • No trailing summaries: "In summary", "To recap", "Hope that helps!"
  • No filler cognitive verbs: "I'm contemplating", "I'm pondering", "I'm considering..."
  • Response length matches task complexity — no padding
  • Code tasks output code first, explanation after (only if non-obvious)

After:

- if (user.role = 'admin') {
+ if (user.role === 'admin') {

Install

npx claude-crisp install

Then restart Claude Code (or open a new session).

Commands

# Install globally (all projects)
npx claude-crisp install

# Install for this project only (commits to ./CLAUDE.md)
npx claude-crisp install --local

# Install both
npx claude-crisp install --both

# Check status
npx claude-crisp status

# Upgrade rules to the latest version
npx claude-crisp install --force

# Undo (creates a .bak backup first)
npx claude-crisp remove

How it works

Claude Code reads ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md as global instructions before every session. claude-crisp appends a clearly-marked block to that file:

<!-- claude-crisp:start v1.0.0 -->
## Response Style (enforced)
...rules...
<!-- claude-crisp:end -->

Your existing content is never touched. The block is idempotent (safe to run install multiple times) and fully reversible (remove strips it cleanly and saves a .bak).

Global npm install (optional)

If you prefer a persistent command over npx:

npm install -g claude-crisp
claude-crisp install
