Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

CLI Password Manager

A simple and secure command-line password manager built with Node.js.
Store, retrieve, edit, and manage your platform passwords locally on your machine.

npm version


Features

  • Register a single user per machine
  • Secure login with a master password
  • Add, retrieve, edit, and list passwords for multiple platforms
  • Delete account securely (requires system username + master password)
  • Passwords are encrypted locally using AES-256-CTR
  • Persistent login session

Installation

npm install -g cli-password-manager

To use the Package :

 clim

To Open Help Page

 clim --help

To Register a User

 clim register <username>

To Login a User

 clim login <username>

You will be asked to enter your password.

Add Platform Password

 clim add <platform> <username>

Example :

 clim add github mygithubuser

Retrieve a Password

 clim get <platform>

List all Stored Password

 clim list

Edit a Platform Password

 clim edit <platform>

Logout

 clim logout

Delete User (in case you forgot password : Warning : All passwrods will be deleted.)

 clim delete <username>

Storage

Passwords are stored locally at:

 ~/.cli-password-manager/db.json

Session details are stored at:

 ~/.cli-password-manager/session.json

Security

Passwords are encrypted using AES-256-CTR. Master password is hashed using bcryptjs. All data is stored locally on your machine; no cloud storage.
