Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

First, import and init sugar into your project.

Then, import the component into your scss file like so:

@import 'node_modules/coffeekraken-s-typography-component/index';

Then simply generate the classes using the component mixin like so:

@include s-typography-classes(
	$color: primary
);

And finally use the classes inside your html

<!-- directly with tags in scoped tf (text format) class -->
<!-- applying vertical rhythm using the vr class -->
<div class="tf vr">
	<h1>Hello world</h1>
	<p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Vestibulum vehicula, lorem accumsan semper tincidunt, metus diam porta tellus.</p>
	<ul>
		<li>List item #1</li>
		<li>List item #2</li>
		<li>List item #3</li>
	</ul>
</div>

<!-- by applying style implicitely with classes -->
<h1 class="h2">Hello world</h1>
<p class="p">Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Vestibulum vehicula, lorem accumsan semper tincidunt, metus diam porta tellus.</p>
<ul class="ul">
	<li class="li">List item #1</li>
	<li class="li">List item #2</li>
	<li class="li">List item #3</li>
</ul>

The tf and vr classes

The tf class is for "text format". It allows you to apply typography styling on the tags that are scoped inside it like so:

<div class="tf">
	<h1>I will be styled like an h1</h1>
</div>
<h1>I will not bein styled like an h1</h1>
<h1 class="h1">I will be styled like an h1</h1>

The vr class is for "vertical rhythm". It allows you to apply margins between typography styled elements on the tags that are scoped inside it like so:

<div class="tf vr">
	<h1>I will be styled like an h1 and have a margin bottom if needed</h1>
	<p>I will be styled like a paragraph and have a margin bottom if needed</p>
</div>

Browsers support

| IE / Edge | Firefox | Chrome | Safari | | --------- | --------- | --------- | --------- | | IE11+ | last 2 versions| last 2 versions| last 2 versions

As browsers are automatically updated, we will keep as reference the last two versions of each but this component can work on older ones as well.

The webcomponent API (custom elements, shadowDOM, etc...) is not supported in some older browsers like IE10, etc... In order to make them work, you will need to integrate the corresponding polyfill.

Contribute

This is an open source project and will ever be! You are more that welcomed to contribute to his development and make it more awesome every day. To do so, you have several possibilities:

  1. Share the love ❤️
