Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

XmobiTea StorePrefs

Static key-value prefs facade with swappable backend for Unity.

Need-Based Routing

Choose by current need. Open only the smallest file that answers it.

| Need | Use | | --- | --- | | Generate normal read/write code | AI_USAGE.md | | Answer setup or integration questions | AI_SETUP.md | | Replace the built-in backend | AI_USE_CUSTOM_BACKEND.md | | Check exact supported API | AI_API_REFERENCE.md | | Understand backend swap, defaults, and delete behavior | AI_BEHAVIOR.md | | Package guardrails for agents | AGENTS.md |

Contract

  • Namespace: XmobiTea.MiniStoreRefs
  • Main entry point: StorePrefs
  • Default backend: UnityPlayerPrefs
  • Default backend storage: UnityEngine.PlayerPrefs
  • Scene setup: none
  • Initialization: none
  • Settings asset: none
  • MenuItem or MCP entrypoint: none
  • Supported value types: int, float, string, bool, long, double
  • Backend override: StorePrefs.SetPrefs(IPrefs)

Use this package when code needs a single static prefs API or a swappable storage backend behind that API.

Setup

None.

  • No scene object
  • No initialization call
  • No settings asset
  • No editor menu workflow
  • No MCP setup

Correct Usage

using XmobiTea.MiniStoreRefs;

StorePrefs.SetString("player_name", "Alex");
StorePrefs.SetInt("coins", 120);
StorePrefs.SetBool("music_enabled", true);
StorePrefs.Save();

var playerName = StorePrefs.GetString("player_name");
var coins = StorePrefs.GetInt("coins", 0);
var musicEnabled = StorePrefs.GetBool("music_enabled", true);

Backend Replacement

Open AI_USE_CUSTOM_BACKEND.md only when the task explicitly needs a custom IPrefs implementation or a test double.

Critical Constraints

  • StorePrefs.DeleteAll() clears all data in the active backend. With the built-in backend, this is PlayerPrefs.DeleteAll().
  • StorePrefs.SetPrefs(...) replaces the global backend for all later StorePrefs calls.
  • StorePrefs.SetPrefs(null) compiles, but the next delegated call will throw because the package does not guard against a null backend.
  • StorePrefs.GetString(key) returns "" when the key is missing and no default is provided.
  • StorePrefs write methods do not call Save() automatically.
  • UnityPlayerPrefs stores bool as PlayerPrefs int 1 or 0.
  • UnityPlayerPrefs stores long and double through PlayerPrefs strings.
  • UnityPlayerPrefs.SetDouble(...) writes value.ToString("R") using current culture, while GetDouble(...) parses with CultureInfo.InvariantCulture.
  • UnityPlayerPrefs.GetDouble(...) also converts the missing-key default through defaultValue.ToString("R") before parsing, so comma-decimal locales can affect double defaults and stored values.
  • There is no built-in support for objects, JSON, encryption, or key namespacing.
