Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Node.js SDK for CommentGuard - The open-source Perspective API alternative

Readme

@commentguard/sdk

The official Node.js / TypeScript SDK for CommentGuard — an open-source, self-hostable toxic comment moderation API. A drop-in replacement for Google's Perspective API.

Installation

npm install @commentguard/sdk
# or
yarn add @commentguard/sdk
# or
pnpm add @commentguard/sdk

Quick Start

import { CommentGuard } from '@commentguard/sdk';

// Initialize with your self-hosted CommentGuard URL
// Defaults to http://localhost:8000 if not provided
const guard = new CommentGuard({
  endpoint: 'http://localhost:8000'
});

async function run() {
  const result = await guard.moderate('You are terrible!');

  if (result.decision === 'block') {
    console.log('Comment blocked!');
    console.log(`Toxicity score: ${result.toxic_prob}`);
    console.log(`Categories: ${result.categories.join(', ')}`);
  }
}

run();

API Reference

moderate(text: string, options?: ModerateOptions)

Classify a single comment across 6 toxicity categories (toxic, severe_toxic, obscene, threat, insult, identity_hate).

const result = await guard.moderate('Go away', {
  threshold: 0.8, // Override default toxicity threshold
  site: 'youtube' // Optional site context
});

moderateBatch(texts: string[], options?: ModerateOptions)

Efficiently classify up to 100 comments in a single request.

const batch = await guard.moderateBatch([
  'Hello world',
  'I hate you',
  'Have a nice day'
]);

console.log(`Found ${batch.toxic_count} toxic comments out of ${batch.total}`);
console.log(batch.results[1].categories); // ['toxic', 'insult']

submitFeedback(text: string, correctLabel: string, predictedLabel: string)

Report false positives/negatives to improve your model over time.

// If the model wrongly flagged a clean comment as toxic
await guard.submitFeedback(
  'I killed that workout today',
  'non_toxic',
  'toxic'
);

getStats()

Get live analytics from your moderation server.

const stats = await guard.getStats();
console.log(`Total processed: ${stats.total}`);
console.log(`Current toxicity rate: ${stats.toxic_rate}%`);
console.dir(stats.by_category);

Types

The SDK is written in TypeScript and exports full typings for all requests and responses.

import type {
  ModerateResponse,
  BatchResponse,
  CategoryScores,
  CommentGuardConfig
} from '@commentguard/sdk';
