Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Self-hosted publishing CMS built with Coordiation Fullstack, with native themes, SEO controls, and AI writing assistance.

Coordiation CMS

An English-language, self-hosted publishing CMS built on Coordiation Fullstack 0.1.0-alpha.1. It uses native .coord pages, server loaders, HTTP handlers, the framework's SQLite adapter, and its password/session provider. No React, Next.js, or PHP runtime is required.

The interface follows coordiation.com: Geist typography, monochrome surfaces, fine borders, and black primary buttons. The supplied Coordiation logo, self-hosted Geist fonts, and official Coordiation Solar Linear icons are included. Native component recipes come from the Coordiation monochrome registry; see Design system.

Create a site with npm

Requires Node.js 22.18 or newer (Node 24 recommended).

npx coordiation-cms init my-site
cd my-site
npm install
npm run build
npm start

The initializer copies the CMS source into a new directory. It does not install dependencies, start servers, or overwrite an existing project. Each project gets its own database and administrator setup. No shared demo account or API key is bundled.

Open http://127.0.0.1:3118/login to create your administrator. See the live showcase and public preview. For production, update the domain and private environment settings as described in Deployment.

Run from GitHub

Requires Node.js 22.18+ (Node 24 is used by the deployment image).

npm ci
npm run build
npm start

Open http://127.0.0.1:3118/login and create the first administrator. The local installer is available only until the first account is created. Passwords require 15–256 characters. For development, use npm run dev; this framework alpha requires a browser refresh after rebuilding.

Data lives in data/cms.sqlite. Override the location with CMS_DATABASE. .env files are used by Docker Compose; local Node commands require exported environment variables.

Included

  • Posts and pages, drafts, review workflow, publication scheduling, private editor previews, trash and restoration.
  • Nine block types: paragraph, heading, image, quote, list, code, divider, button, and sanitized HTML.
  • Separate autosave recovery, 50 revisions per post, revision restoration, and version conflict protection.
  • Categories, tags, featured images, and image metadata.
  • Raster image uploads stored in SQLite, safe content types, and protection against deleting currently used media.
  • Public comments with moderation, spam/trash states, and basic rate limiting.
  • Administrator, editor, author, contributor, and subscriber roles; profile editing and password changes.
  • Native theme installation, preview, activation, source editing, cloning, removal, and ZIP export.
  • Four sample themes: Folio, Gazette, Mono, and Teraform. Generate distributable ZIPs with node scripts/export-themes.js.
  • Flat navigation menus, site identity, accent color, static homepage selection, and reading settings.
  • Two built-in extensions: reading time and table of contents.
  • Server-rendered pages, SEO controls and meter, social metadata, article JSON-LD, RSS, sitemap, and an optional AI-readable content index.
  • OpenAI writing assistance with private connection settings and review before applying. See SEO and AI.
  • Administrator Statistics with daily page views, publishing charts, content status, top pages, peak hours (WIB/UTC), and a page heatmap. Includes 7/30/90-day filters and accessible data tables.
  • Native JSON content import/export and a bounded WordPress WXR content importer.
  • Docker/Traefik deployment, health checks, database backup and isolated restore commands.

New in 0.2.0

Statistics now uses Coordiation Interactive Charts with daily traffic, peak hours and page heatmaps. It stores aggregate counts only, excludes signed-in visits and common bots, and removes records outside the rolling 90-day window on the next view or statistics request. Hourly history begins when the hourly migration is installed; existing daily data is preserved. See release notes and statistics scope.

An initialized site contains its own copy of the source. Running the initializer again or installing a newer npm package does not upgrade that site. Back up first and review the source-update steps in Deployment.

Theme authoring

Open Themes → Create theme to clone a starting point. Set its identity, colors, templates, and stylesheet. Preview it, activate it, and export its ZIP for distribution.

Theme packages belong to Coordiation CMS. WordPress PHP themes and plugins cannot be installed. See Theme format for the template contract and examples.

node scripts/export-themes.js

Validation

npm run build
npm test

Tests launch an isolated compiled server on port 3319 and create disposable SQLite data. The suite covers authentication, role enforcement, CSRF, publication privacy, version conflicts, autosaves, revisions, media, theme packages, theme source editing, comments, scheduling, imports, password changes, and session revocation.

Deployment and scope

See Deployment, Security, and Feature scope.

This is a working 0.2 early release, not complete WordPress feature parity or a production certification. Coordiation Fullstack itself is an alpha. The feature matrix explicitly identifies capabilities that are not implemented; do not advertise full WordPress compatibility.

The CMS core is MIT licensed. Included fonts and icons retain their attribution and licenses in public/fonts/OFL.txt and public/icons/ATTRIBUTION.txt. Separately distributed premium themes may use their own license terms.
