Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Copy Code Vue

A lightweight Vue library that automatically adds copy buttons to code blocks. Customizable options for button position, styling, text and highlighting.

Installation

Install using pnpm, npm or yarn

pnpm install copy-code-vue
npm install copy-code-vue
yarn add copy-code-vue

Usage

Method 1: Using the CopyCode Component

The CopyCode component automatically adds copy buttons to all code blocks within it. This is the simplest way to add copy functionality to specific sections of your app.

<script setup>
import { CopyCode } from 'copy-code-vue';
</script>

<template>
  <CopyCode>
    <div>
      <h3>Example code block:</h3>
      <pre><code>
        function hello() {
          console.log("Hello, world!");
        }
      </code></pre>
      <div>
        <h4>Example code block 2:</h4>
        <pre><code>
          const a = b + c;
        </code></pre>
      </div>
    </div>
  </CopyCode>
</template>

CopyCode component also works with v-html:

<script setup>
import { CopyCode } from 'copy-code-vue';
</script>

<template>
  <CopyCode>
    <div v-html="'<pre><code>console.log(\"Hello, world!\");</code></pre>'"></div>
  </CopyCode>
</template>

You can customize the appearance and behavior of the copy buttons:

<script setup>
import { CopyCode } from 'copy-code-vue';
</script>

<template>
  <CopyCode
    position="bottom-right"
    copyMessage="Copied!"
    :highlightOnCopy="true"
  >
    <!-- Your code blocks here -->
  </CopyCode>
</template>

Using Custom Icons

You can provide your own custom icons for both the copy button and success state:

<template>
  <CopyCode
    position="top-right"
    copyMessage="Copied with custom icon!"
  >
    <template #copy-icon>
      <CustomCopyIcon />
    </template>
    <template #success-icon>
      <CustomSuccessIcon />
    </template>

    <!-- Your code blocks here -->
    <pre><code>Your code here</code></pre>
  </CopyCode>
</template>

<script setup>
import { CopyCode } from 'copy-code-vue';
import CustomCopyIcon from './components/icons/CustomCopyIcon.vue';
import CustomSuccessIcon from './components/icons/CustomSuccessIcon.vue';
</script>

Method 2: Using the Composable Directly

For more control, you can use the useCopyCode composable directly in your components. This allows you to target specific sections of your app.

<script setup>
import { ref, onMounted } from 'vue';
import { useCopyCode } from 'copy-code-vue';

// Create a ref to limit the scope of code blocks that will get copy buttons
const containerRef = ref(null);

// Apply the composable with custom options
useCopyCode(
  {
    position: 'top-left',
    copyMessage: 'Code Copied!',
    highlightOnCopy: true
  },
  containerRef
);
</script>

<template>
  <div ref="containerRef">
    <pre>
      <code>
// This code block will have a copy button
function example() {
  return "Hello world!";
}
      </code>
    </pre>
  </div>
</template>

Without a ref, the composable will apply to all code blocks in the document:

<script setup>
import { useCopyCode } from 'copy-code-vue';

// Add copy buttons to all code blocks in the document
useCopyCode({
  selector: 'pre code',
});
</script>

<template>
  <div>
    <!-- Your content with code blocks -->
  </div>
</template>

Options

Both the CopyCode component and useCopyCode composable accept the following options:

| Option | Type | Default | Description | |--------|------|---------|-------------| | selector | string | 'pre code' | CSS selector for code blocks | | position | string | 'top-right' | Position of the copy button. Options: 'top-right', 'top-left', 'bottom-right', 'bottom-left' | | copyMessage | string | 'Copied' | Message to show after copying | | copyMessageTimeout | number | 2000 | Time in milliseconds to show the success message | | containerClassName | string | 'copy-code-vue-button-container' | Class name for the button container | | buttonClassName | string | 'copy-code-vue-button' | Class name for the copy button | | successClassName | string | 'copy-code-vue-success' | Class name for success message | | highlightOnCopy | boolean | false | Whether to highlight the code block when copied |

Development

To develop and test the library:

# Install dependencies
npm install

# Start the development server
npm run dev

The development server will start, and you can view the examples at http://localhost:5173 (or the port shown in your terminal).
