Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Cordova Camera Roll

Created by Max Lynch @maxlynch. For Cordova 3.0+

The Cordova Camera Roll plugin makes it easy to read from the iOS camera roll.

Cordova comes with some camera features such as navigator.camera.getPicture. The problem is you have no control over the experience beyond that. On iOS, for example, a modal slides in that lets you choose a picture.

With this plugin you can get a list of all photos and do whatever you want with them after that.

This plugin only works with iOS and was only tested on iOS 7. We will not support other platforms with this plugin for a variety of reasons (possibly Android in the future though).

Installation

To install this plugin, follow the Command-line Interface Guide.

If you are not using the Cordova Command-line Interface, follow Using Plugman to Manage Plugins.

Usage

To use this plugin, make sure you install it just like any Cordova/PhoneGap plugin.

In Javascript, you can do something like this:

// Quickly save a base-64 encoded data uri to the cameraroll.
CamerRoll.saveToCameraRoll(base64String, function() {
}, function(err) {
});

CameraRoll.getPhotos(function(photo) {
  // Photo is a URL pointing to the asset. It's prefixed asset-library://
  // So if you are using Angular and ng-src, make sure to whitelist this URL scheme.
  //
  // You can use "photo" directly in an img src or as a background-image in CSS.
  //
  // This callback will be called for each photo in the roll. It's async, yo!
});

TODO

Need to do some more testing for failure conditions and permission things.

Also, I want to add block-style reading where you can read in a block of photos at a time, which gives you a little more control and performance over the loading.
