Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

country-flags-css

Stylesheets with individual countries' flags and their spritesheets.

We're using the icon set from Go Squared Ltd. in this project. For short it's free for use, change and distribute (for more info see the license file).

Installing

Via NPM:

npm i -S country-flags-css

How to use it

With webpack

First of all you should configure module.rules, so that all the css dependecies required in your code should be placed in a single css bundle. An example of such config:

{
	test: /\.css$/,
	use: ExtractTextPlugin.extract({
		fallback: { loader: 'style-loader', options: { sourceMap: true } },
		use: [
			{
				loader: 'css-loader',
				options: {
					// how many loaders before css-loader should be
					// applied to @imported resources
					importLoaders: 1,
					sourceMap: true,
					minimize: true
				}
			},
			{ loader: 'postcss-loader', options: { sourceMap: true } }
		]
	})
},
{
	test: /\.scss$/,
	use: ExtractTextPlugin.extract({
		fallback: { loader: 'style-loader', options: { sourceMap: true } },
		use: [
			{
				loader: 'css-loader',
				options: {
					// how many loaders before css-loader should be
					// applied to @imported resources
					importLoaders: 2,
					sourceMap: true,
					minimize: true
				}
			},
			{ loader: 'postcss-loader', options: { sourceMap: true } },
			{ loader: 'sass-loader', options: { sourceMap: true } }
		]
	})
},
/**
 * File loader for supporting images, for example, in CSS files.
 */
{
	test: /\.(jpg|png|gif)$/,
	use: [{
		loader: 'url-loader',
		options: {
			name: '[name]-[hash].[ext]',
			limit: 4096,
			outputPath: '../images/'
		}
	}]
},

Then you just import country-flags-css/dist/<CSS FILE YOU NEED> from your .jsx? or .scss code.

Stylesheets you can import:

  • all.css - css classes for icons of all sizes and styles.
  • flat.css - css classes for icons of all sizes only flatly looking flags.
  • shiny.css - css classes for icons of all sizes only 3d looking flags.
  • (flat|shiny)(16|24|32|48|64).css (e.g. flat16.css) - 16x16px flat flags.
  • (flat|shiny)(16|24|32|48|64)sheet.css (e.g. flat16sheet.css) - 16x16px flat flags from spritesheet.

CSS classes

Example:

<i class="cf-16 cf-af"></i>

The classes denotes icon size and country code in ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 format respectively.

Note: cf is an abbreviation of "Country Flag".
